\nDr. Michelle Henshaw has been promoted from Associate Professor to Professor of the Department of Health Policy and Health Services Research. Dr. Henshaw is also the Director of Community Health Programs (CHP) and Co-Investigator for the Center for Research to Evaluate and Eliminate Dental Disparities<\/a> (CREED). <\/p>\n Dr. Henshaw joined Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM) in 1993 as part of the Faculty Training Fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry. She was drawn to BUGSDM because of the unique opportunity to participate in a program that let her serve frail, homebound, elderly patients. Her mission of serving the Boston area’s underserved population and breaking down the boundaries that limit people’s access to care have helped develop her career into what it is today. <\/p>\n "When I started at BUGSDM, the Department of Health Policy and Health Services Research and CHP were both new," said Dr. Henshaw. "Having the ability to help shape and grow both the department and program has meant a lot to me. I am especially proud of our ability to provide service to greater than 11,000 children annually and to improve underserved children’s oral health." <\/p>\n "I have worked with Dr. Henshaw for 12 years," said Raul Garcia. "During that time she has made noteworthy contributions to community health and to fulfilling the School’s missions of excellence in teaching, research, and service. She has led the way in our health disparities research efforts and is also a national leader in service learning in dental education. She is an outstanding member of the department and truly deserving of this promotion." <\/p>\n Dr. Henshaw’s upcoming focus will be to integrate CHP’s infrastructure with BUGSDM’s community based education, allowing students more opportunities for community outreach as part of their education.
