GSDM\u2019s Precept<\/span>orship in Predoctoral General Dentis<\/span>try <\/span>familiarizes internationally trained dentists <\/span>with <\/span>predoctoral clinical and didactic education<\/span> in the United States as well as<\/span> the U.S. group practice structure<\/span>. The program furthers <\/span>participants’<\/span> dental education <\/span>by combining <\/span>didactic<\/span> lectures<\/span> and hands-on <\/span>preclinical <\/span>seminars with clinical observations. As a culminating experience, participants will prepare a case presentation assignment based on a false patient profile.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Admissions Requirements<\/strong><\/h5>

This program seeks applicants with an educational background and previous training in dentistry, demonstrated by a degree in dental medicine from a foreign institution, as well as a commitment to improving overall didactic and clinical knowledge.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  • DDS\/DMD degree, or its equivalent, from an international dental school.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Completed application form that includes a curriculum vitae and verified copies of transcripts* from ECE.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • TOEFL score of at least 90 (or 4.5 based on the new scoring system) for internet-based TOEFL or 550 for paper-based TOEFL (if English is the applicant\u2019s second language). Please submit an original report*.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Interview<\/span> will be conducted through a w<\/span><\/span>ritten questionnaire that you will receive via email<\/li>\n

      Course Components<\/strong><\/h5>
      \n

       <\/p>\n

      Predoctoral Didactic Lectures & Pre-Clinical Seminars:<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
      \nParticipants will attend one session of each predoctoral course and pre-clinical seminar that is in session during their preceptorship.<\/span><\/span><\/span> Example courses and seminars include <\/span><\/span><\/span>Fixed Prosthodontics, <\/span>Pharmacolog<\/span>y<\/span>, Operative Dentistry, and Biomaterials<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      Patient Care Observation<\/strong>
      \nParticipants will be assigned to <\/span>a predoctoral <\/span>Group Practice<\/span>, reporting to that group\u2019s Group Practice Leaders<\/span>. <\/span>Out<\/span>side of time spent in lectures or seminars, <\/span>participants will <\/span>be <\/span>observing<\/span> in <\/span>the predoctoral <\/span>patient treatment center<\/span>, accumulating approximately <\/span>100 <\/span>observation <\/span>hours<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Case Presentation Assignment
      \n<\/strong>Each participant will present a treatment planning case, based on a <\/span>fictious<\/span> <\/span>patient profile. Specific guidelines will be provided during the Treatment Planning Seminar, and feedback will be provided at the time of the case presentation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

      CAD\/CAM Basics (hands on)<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Participants will learn the basics of CEREC software and scanning techniques<\/span>. T<\/span>hey will then use these skills<\/span> to create a di<\/span>gital impression <\/span>and to design <\/span>restorations and<\/span> will mill the final restorations for insertion or expedition of th<\/span>e digital impression to a lab.<\/span><\/p>\n
