Prosthodontics Well Represented at The American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics Meeting

Alexander Bendayan PROS 05, Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences & Biomaterials, and Clinical Director of the Advanced Specialty Education Program in the Prosthodontics Dental Health Center, and Hiroshi Hirayama, Director of the Advanced Specialty Education Program in Prosthodontics in the Department of Restorative Sciences & Biomaterials led a group of residents and faculty from the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) at The American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics (AAFP) 66th Annual Scientific Session from February 24 – 25 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown in Chicago, Illinois.

The AAFP Session draws prosthodontic residents, prosthodontists, general dentists, laboratory technicians, oral & maxillofacial surgeons, periodontists, and other dental professionals from across the country for days of continuing education courses, networking, and research presentations. Eight GSDM prosthodontic residents presented posters and were honored with participation certificates. Many of the residents focused on GSDM’s cutting edge use of Digital Dentistry for restorative work and placement of surgically guided implants for their respective posters. The names and titles of the presentations are as follows:

  • Prosthetically Driven Surgical Planning with Guided Implant Placement in the Posterior Mandible – Authors: Dr. Yuko Otsubo and Eihab Mously
  • Utilizing Digital Treatment Planning and Guided Implant Surgery to Restore Fully Edentulous Arches: A Clinical Report – Authors: Drs. Haidar A. Alalawi, Nael Eid, Khalid Alawadhi.
  • Digital Planning from Start to Finish for Partial Edentulous Maxillae: A Case Report – Authors: Dr. Ya-ting Yu and Ping Li
  • How We Manage Worn Dentition? – Authors: Drs. Nael Eid and Dr. Haidar Alalawi
  • Management of Immediate Placement and Loading in the Esthetic Zone – Authors: Drs. Justine Oliveros and Said Sherif

Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter also made the trip to Chicago to attend the 2017 Chicago Mid-winter Dental Meeting and stopped by the AAPD poster session to support the outstanding work of our residents and faculty. “Congratulations to all of our Prosthodontic residents for a job well done at the AAFP poster session,” said Dean Hutter.

The American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, originally The American Academy of Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics and renamed in 1991, has been the leading national voice of fixed prosthodontics. Its membership is composed of educators, clinical practitioners, and researchers in this important discipline of dentistry. The purpose of this organization is to pursue, by mutual study and cooperation, activities reflecting a high and ethical standard of practice, teaching, and research in the art and science of crown and bridge (fixed) prosthodontics.
