Author, Activist Rev. Dr. Barbara Reynolds to be Honored at Boston University
Boston – The Rev. Dr. Barbara Reynolds will give the Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Lecture at Boston University on March 29th, speaking about her work with Coretta Scott King on the latter’s memoir, titled My Life, My Love, My Legacy. An award-winning journalist, Dr. Reynolds is also an ordained minister and lifelong Civil Rights activist. Dr. Reynolds will be joined in conversation by the Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill, Dean of Marsh Chapel at Boston University. Following their talk, Dr. Reynolds will be named a Coretta Scott King Fellow of the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center.

The Rev. Dr. Barbara Reynolds will share her experiences of working with the late Coretta Scott King when she delivers the Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Lecture at Boston University on March 29th. Dr. Reynolds first met Mrs. King while on assignment to write a cover story about her for the Chicago Tribune Sunday Magazine. A thirty-year friendship developed, during which time Mrs. King chose Dr. Reynolds as the co-author of her autobiography. USA Today describes My Life, My Love, My Legacy as "Eloquent... inspirational... King's life's work relayed in this rich retelling, provides a possible blueprint... and a beacon."
Dr. Reynolds is an ordained minister, a columnist, and the author of several books, including Out of Hell & Living Well: Healing from the Inside Out and No! I Won't Shut Up: 30 Years of Telling It Like It Is. She has written for many major magazines and newspapers including Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, Playboy, Ebony, Essence, and USA Today, where she was a columnist and editorial board member for 13 years. She has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN, C-Span, MSNBC, and hosted her own satellite radio show for almost a decade. An activist in her own right, Dr. Reynolds serves on the board of advisors for major gun violence reform with Black Women for Positive Change. She also founded Harriet's Ministry, a weekly healing conversation for women addicted to alcohol and drugs.
The mission of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Lecture is to bring speakers to the Boston University community who serve as leaders in the quest for maintaining social justice and human rights. We seek mentors for our students who exemplify the highest standards of Dr. King's legacy of peace forgiveness and reconciliation. Past Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Lecture speakers include Forest Whitaker, Christine King Farris, Paul Rusesabagina, and Congressman John Lewis.
