{"id":6908,"date":"2023-02-01T13:08:57","date_gmt":"2023-02-01T18:08:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cura\/?p=6908"},"modified":"2023-04-07T07:22:23","modified_gmt":"2023-04-07T11:22:23","slug":"6908","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cura\/2023\/02\/01\/6908\/","title":{"rendered":"Talk: Women in World Christianity, with Gina Zurlo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.barnesandnoble.com\/w\/women-in-world-christianity-gina-a-zurlo\/1142606248\"><em>Women in World Christianity: Building and Sustaining a Global Movement<\/em><\/a> is the first World Christianity textbook to put women in the center of the Christian story, especially Christianity\u2019s shift to the global South and the continuation of Christian faith into the future. The book is based on a Louisville Institute funded project, \u201cWomen in World Christianity: A Mixed-Methods Study of Gender in the World\u2019s Largest Religion.\u201d This project resulted in the first-ever dataset of the percent Christian female of every denomination in every country of the world.<\/p>\n<p>The book, due for release with Wiley-Blackwell in April 2023, provides different perspectives on women\u2019s experiences of church life worldwide and largely focuses on the 20th and 21st centuries. The book blends historical, social scientific, and theological perspectives to engage with what Christian women are doing around the world in the contemporary period, including combating gender-based violence and engaging in faith-based ecological activism and peacebuilding efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Gina A. Zurlo (Ph.D., Boston University School of Theology) is co-director of the Center for the Study of Global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a Visiting Research Fellow at Boston University\u2019s Institute on Culture, Religion, and World Affairs. She is author of Global Christianity: A Guide to the World\u2019s Largest Religion from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe (Zondervan Academic, 2022), co-author of the World Christian Encyclopedia, 3rd edition (Edinburgh University Press, 2019) and co-editor of the World Christian Database (Brill). She was named one of the BBC\u2019s 100 most inspiring and influential women of 2019 for her work in quantifying religion worldwide. Her latest books are Women in World Christianity: Building and Sustaining a Global Movement (Wiley-Blackwell, 2023) and From Nairobi to the World: David B.
