{"id":3459,"date":"2014-03-14T15:53:48","date_gmt":"2014-03-14T19:53:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cura\/?p=3459"},"modified":"2014-03-14T16:00:02","modified_gmt":"2014-03-14T20:00:02","slug":"ahmet-selim-tekelioglu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cura\/2014\/03\/14\/ahmet-selim-tekelioglu\/","title":{"rendered":"Ahmet Selim Tekelioglu&#8217;s ongoing research on  Catholics, Muslims, and the New Pluralist Citizenship in Southern California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ahmet Selim Tekelioglu is a Research Fellow in the ongoing project on Catholics, Muslims, and the New Pluralist Citizenship in the U.S, Canada, Netherlands, and France.\u00a0 The project is sponsored by the Kroc Institute for Peace at Notre Dame University and CURA.<br \/>\nAhmet has been carrying out research on inter-faith relations in Los Angeles and Orange Counties since July 2013.\u00a0 From March 9 through 15th, Bob Hefner visited Ahmet and met with some of the many extraordinary Muslim, Catholic, and secular leaders active in interfaith affairs in southern California.<\/p>\n<p>Southern California has the largest Catholic archdiocese in the United States, and, under the leadership of Rt. Rev Archimandrite Alexei Smith, it also has one of the most remarkable and active offices for Ecumenical and Interfaith Affairs.\u00a0 The Los Angeles and Orange Counties also has one of the oldest and largest Muslim communities in the United States; its network of Muslim schools, councils, and inter-faith programs, as well as its Shura Council, are among the most dynamic in North America.\u00a0\u00a0 Ahmet has also been active in the African American Muslim community, also among the oldest and largest in the United States.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment3460\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment3460\" style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/cura\/files\/2014\/03\/Unknown.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/cura\/files\/2014\/03\/Unknown-450x300.jpeg\" alt=\"Ahmet and Bob's visit to the New Horizons Islamic school in Pasadena, California.
