Lingering Effects of SARS-CoV-2 Infection<\/span><\/p>\n

While SARS-CoV-2 has demonstrated remarkable tenacity in terms of successfully navigating pharmaceutical as well as non-pharmaceutical interventions with waves of new variants throughout this pandemic, preliminary studies also report that approximately 1\/3 of those infected with SARS-CoV-2 remain symptomatic four or more months after the infection, with continued symptoms that negatively impact daily functioning, regardless of the severity of the initial acute infection.<\/span> Continue reading here >\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: NCATS Translational Science Course: Translational Science in the COVID-19 Pandemic: Accelerating and Enhancing Our Response Across Pre-Clinical, Clinical, and Population Health Research<\/h4>\n

Dates: October 25-December 10, 2021.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS)<\/a>, part of the\u00a0<\/span>National Institutes of Health (NIH)<\/a>, and the\u00a0<\/span>Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES)<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>have partnered to offer an online course about translational science in the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

The course describes in detail a range of recent and ongoing research activities \u2014 from preclinical to clinical to population health \u2014 that were led or supported by NCATS in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Through this lens, the course teaches students effective approaches and strategies in translational science that have been key to the success of these efforts and are generalizable to other translational research activities.<\/p>\n

Students will learn about the myriad ways NCATS is contributing to research to address the COVID-19 pandemic and will leave the course equipped with a set of wide-ranging translational science strategies they can apply in their future work in translational research.<\/p>\n

NEW: Call for Nominations for 2022 ODP Early-Stage Investigator Lecture<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n

Nominations due October 29, 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Office of Disease Prevention (ODP) is\u00a0<\/span>seeking nominations<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>for our\u00a0<\/span>2022 Early-Stage Investigator Lecture<\/a>. The award is made annually to\u00a0<\/span>early-career scientists<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>who have made significant research contributions in\u00a0<\/span>disease prevention<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>but who have not yet successfully competed for an R01 or\u00a0<\/span>R01-equivalent<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>National Institutes of Health (NIH) research grant.<\/p>\n

The award winner will be invited to give a lecture at the NIH in 2022<\/strong>. The awardee will also have the opportunity to meet and network with NIH program directors and scientists. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the date and in-person status of the lecture will depend on travel and meeting guidance provided by the NIH.<\/p>\n
