SCTR-supported COVID-19 biorepository yields new insights into IgG antibody responses in patients with and without symptoms<\/a><\/h4>\n

People who successfully fight off COVID-19 without showing symptoms have much higher levels of IgG antibodies against the virus\u2019s spike protein than do patients who were hospitalized with COVID-19,\u00a0reports<\/a>\u00a0a research team led by\u00a0Shikhar Mehrotra, Ph.D.<\/a>, of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in a recent issue of iScience.<\/p>\n

Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute<\/a>\u00a0released the\u00a0latest episode<\/a>\u00a0of its Engage Podcast discussing research into healthy aging in the LGBTQ community.\u00a0Britney Wardecker,<\/a>\u00a0Ph.D., an assistant professor of nursing at Penn State College of Nursing, discusses her work into understanding the needs and health care preferences of aging LGBTQ community members.<\/p>\n

Storytelling and Diversity: Using Your Story to Explore Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity in Research<\/a><\/h4>\n

In this workshop, members of DC3 will share the journey of creating the event and the lessons learned which has led to further expansion of the resources they are able to provide.\u00a0After sharing the lessons, they will use guided prompts to allow attendees to explore their own stories to see how your own story affects how they show up in the world and the research community.<\/p>\n

CTSA ReFRAME Call for Proposals<\/a><\/h4>\n

The Scripps Research Translational Institute and drug discovery affiliate Calibr invite proposals for collaborative drug repurposing screens. This translational endeavor aims to partner clinical proficiencies throughout the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) network with drug discovery resources. CTSA-affiliated researchers and clinicians who have identified potential drug targets, pathways, or screening approaches and are interested in accelerated translation into patients through drug repurposing are encouraged to respond.<\/p>\n

CLIC Un-Meeting: Exploring the Inclusion of Community Hospitals in Clinical Research<\/a><\/p>\n

Researchers across the country gathered virtually last month to discuss outreach to community hospitals for recruitment and enrollment into clinical trials at the CLIC-hosted Un-Meeting \u201cExploring the Inclusion of Community Hospitals in Clinical Research.\u201d The topic, chosen by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), was driven by the disconnect between high COVID patient numbers and a low number of people who enrolled in clinical trials during the pandemic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

CLIC will be scheduling a “next steps” Un-Meeting for the fall of 2021 to continue the conversation.
