Announcement for the TL1 Fellowships in Regenerative Medicine
We are delighted to announce that the BU CTSI will support several predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows as part the CTSI training program in Regenerative Medicine. Students and Faculty interested in this support should submit the following materials by April 14, 2023. If you are interested in this support please submit an application and review the required materials and criteria below. Applications that are not complete will not be reviewed.

Materials should be submitted here in the order listed below. Applications that are not complete will not be reviewed. Individuals with recent submissions of highly competitive but unfunded individual K series awards or other career development awards are encouraged to apply. We are seeking to fund faculty with a promise to be an NIH or NSF supported investigator.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be US Citizen or a permanent resident.
Application Materials
- A copy of the candidate’s NIH-formatted Biosketch. A copy of the mentor(s) NIH-formatted Biosketch. Instructions on how to complete your biosketch can be found here: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/forms/biosketch.htm.
- Transcripts; including undergraduate institution, GPA, and GRE/MCAT scores (if available).
- A paragraph explaining the research project to be conducted by the fellow with emphasis on relevance to regenerative medicine. The paragraph should allow the selection committee to assess an indication of a trainee’s ability to identify a regenerative medicine-related research question and to articulate strategies for answering these questions.
- A letter of support from the trainee’s research mentor. All primary research mentors must have demonstrated experience as a mentor.
If awarded you will be required to complete a Statement of Appointment from (PHS 2271) which must be submitted to the NIH at the start of each scholar’s appointment. Forms must be submitted electronically using the eRA Commons xTrain application.

Selection Criteria
Three key criteria will be used by the selection committee to select TL1 trainee:
- Research potential of the candidate, judged by the selection committee as the likelihood that the candidate will develop into an independent investigator;
- Research project that fits the priorities of this initiative – that is, that the research project relates to regenerative medicine and/or stem cell biology;
- Assessments from the research mentor regarding the potential of the candidate to become an independent investigator and to influence research in the trainee’s Department;
Trainees will receive a stipend based on current NIH funding levels as well as Tuition & Fee; Trainee Travel and Training Expenses. Exact amounts to be determined at the appointment stage.
