This special four-day University College course, offered only in spring 2020,
covers issues related to the credibility, translation, and usefulness of research findings.
Emphasis will be on biomedicine and its applications.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants should be able to:
 Understand which factors shape the credibility of research findings.
 Define major types of biases and errors in designing, conducting, analyzing, and publishing biomedical research studies.
 Explain the types of research practices that can enhance reproducibility, trtranslational potential.
 Understand what makes research useful.
 Describe how incentives, rewards, and other interventions may potentially improve research practices.

 Monday: Significance and Credibility of Research Findings; Biases and Errors
 Tuesday: Integration of Evidence and Principles of Collaborative Research; Translational of Research Findings: Reproducibility and Efficiency
 Wednesday: Usefulness in Scientific Research; Improving Research Practices, Incentives, and Rewards
 Thursday: Presentation and Discussion of Student Projects

About John P.A. Ioannidis, MD, DSc

Dr. Ioannidis is the C.F. Rehnborg Chair in Disease Prevention at Stanford University, Professor of Medicine, and Professor of Health Research and Policy.
He has published nearly 1,000 papers and is one of the 10 most-cited scientists worldwide. He is author of the most-accessed article in the his-tory of PLoS Medicine,
“Why Most Published Research Findings are False.”

CTS 501 is open to all graduate students, residents, fellows, faculty, and staff across all Tufts CTSI partners and collaborators. Tufts students can cross-register for free. Others may register for CTS 501 via the University College; standard tuition may apply. The registration deadline is March 23.
