Maria Valadez Ingersoll

Graduate Assistant

Maria Valadez Ingersoll is a PhD student in Cellular and Molecular Biology co-advised by Drs. Tom Gilmore and Sarah Davies. Maria studies the molecular basis of the stress response in coral and anemones, specifically in reference to anthropogenic climate change and disease states. She has served as a teaching assistant in introductory biology courses and laboratories at Swarthmore College—where she did her undergraduate studies—and as a teaching fellow for the Biology Department at BU. Maria is also part of the URBAN program at BU, where she is developing a curriculum to bring marine science to local underfunded school districts. She is very passionate about inclusivity in STEM and using hands-on approaches to teach science and conservation to students from all backgrounds.
