Laney received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minor in Chemistry from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina in 2016. As an undergrad, Laney worked in a genetics lab studying wing mutations associated with the IP3K2 gene in fruit flies. She joined the CTE Center in September, 2016 as a research assistant and plans to attend medical school in the future.
Laney is interested in research because it is challenging, rewarding and offers the chance to work with and learn from many different collaborators and other researchers. Specifically, she is interested in how genetic and non-genetic risk factors are associated with CTE, especially how duration of play and head trauma exposure impact players’ risk of CTE.
