{"id":1796,"date":"2019-09-17T16:59:19","date_gmt":"2019-09-17T20:59:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/csn\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=1796"},"modified":"2025-02-21T12:24:00","modified_gmt":"2025-02-21T17:24:00","slug":"robert-stern","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/csn\/profile\/robert-stern\/","title":{"rendered":"Robert Stern"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A major focus of Prof. Robert Stern&#8217;s research involves the long-term effects of repetitive brain trauma in athletes, including the neurodegenerative disease, CTE.\u00a0 He has funding from NIH and the Department of Defense for his work on developing methods of detecting and diagnosing CTE during life, as well as examining potential genetic and other risk factors for this disease.\u00a0 His other major areas of funded research include the assessment and treatment of Alzheimer\u2019s disease, the cognitive effects of chemotherapy in the elderly, thyroid-brain relationships, and driving and dementia.\u00a0 Prof. Stern has also published on various aspects of cognitive assessment and is the senior author of many widely used neuropsychological tests, including the <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.parinc.com\/Products?pkey=260\">Neuropsychological Assessment Battery (NAB)<\/a><\/i>.\u00a0 Prof. Stern has received several NIH and other national grants, has published over 250 journal articles, chapters, and abstracts, and is a Fellow of both the American Neuropsychiatric Association and the National Academy of Neuropsychology.\u00a0 He is on several editorial boards and is on the Medical and Scientific Advisory Boards of the MA\/NH Chapter of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alz.org\/\">Alzheimer\u2019s Association<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportslegacy.org\/\">Concussion Legacy Foundation<\/a>, and is also a member of the Mackey-White Traumatic Brain Injury Committee of the NFL Players Association. Prof. Stern has testified before the US Senate Special Committee on Aging.
