The VHA is America\u2019s largest integrated healthcare system, providing care at nearly 1,300 health care facilities and serving 9 million enrolled Veterans each year. Unlike other healthcare organizations which are often fragmented among different clinical domains, the Veterans Affairs electronic health record captures longitudinal clinical patient data \u2013 covering long periods of health and illness. BD-STEP provides an avenue to access the rich and diverse data available in the VHA.
