Cybersecurity focuses on protecting systems, networks, applications, and digital data from cyber threats such as hacking, malware, ransomware, and unauthorized access. It is essential because organizations—including government agencies, hospitals, financial institutions, and private businesses—rely heavily on interconnected technologies to store, process, and transmit sensitive information about employees and customers. If critical digital assets, such as customer payment information, intellectual property, or proprietary system data, are compromised, organizations may face financial losses, legal penalties, reputational damage, and even business failure. Additionally, organizations must comply with cybersecurity-related regulations and standards, such as HIPAA, PCI DSS, and GLBA, which are designed to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive data in an increasingly connected world.

MET’s cybersecurity graduate certificate program touches upon various aspects, including IT security policies, network security, cryptograph, software security, AI security and system security. Students also learn about digital forensics to help in investigating a security breach, or obtain a good understanding of how information is stored in a database and what services are available to protect it. On completing the graduate certificate, students will have sufficient skills in developing and implementing IT security in their organizations.

Summary

Four courses/16 units

Requirements can be fully completed on campus, online or, in the blended format.
