The curriculum provides a thorough immersion in concepts and techniques for organizing, cleaning, analyzing, and representing\/visualizing large amounts of data. Students will be exposed to various database systems, data mining tools, data visualization tools and packages, Python packages, R packages, and cloud services. The knowledge of analytics tools combined with understanding of data mining and machine learning approaches will enable students to critically analyze real-world problems and understand the possibilities and limitations of analytics applications.<\/p>\n<p>Students who complete the master\u2019s degree in Applied Data Analytics will be able to demonstrate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of the foundations of applied probability and statistics and their relevance in day-to-day data analysis.<\/li>\n<li>The ability to apply various data visualization techniques using real-world data sets and analyze the graphs and charts.<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of web analytics and metrics, procuring and processing unstructured text\/data, and the ability to investigate hidden patterns.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge-discovery skills using data mining techniques and tools over large amounts of data.<\/li>\n<li>The ability to implement machine learning algorithms and their pertinence in real-world applications.<\/li>\n<li>Comprehensive knowledge of data analytics techniques, skills, and critical thinking, and an understanding of the possibilities and limitations of their applications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Preparatory Labs<strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>All students are enrolled in the following free, online, non-unit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/csmet\/academic-programs\/preparatory-labs\/\">preparatory labs<\/a> designed to strengthen their academic foundation and serve as a key resource for the degree program. Requirements for completion are assessed during the application process.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/csmet\/academic-programs\/preparatory-labs\/\">MET LB 103 Core Mathematical Concepts<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/csmet\/academic-programs\/preparatory-labs\/\">MET LB 104 Foundations of Probability<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/csmet\/academic-programs\/preparatory-labs\/\">MET LB 115 Database Fundamentals<\/a>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Master&#8217;s in Applied Data Analytics Degree Summary<\/h4>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>A total of ten courses (40 units) is required. Students exempted from the foundation courses will complete a total of eight courses (32 units).<\/li>\n<li>Students not choosing a concentration must complete recommended prerequisites and foundation courses, core courses, and general electives. Students pursuing a concentration should review the requirements for AI &amp; Machine Learning or Data Engineering concentrations.<\/li>\n<li>Requirements can be completed full time or part time on campus, or, part time online. Some classes may not be available in both formats, consult an administrative advisor to determine which classes are available in each format.<\/li>\n<li>Applications are accepted throughout the year. The online program has six start dates a year and the on campus program has three.<\/li>\n<li>An average grade of B (3.0) must be maintained to be in good academic standing and satisfy the degree requirements.
