COVID-19 & the Community Service Center

For Current Students

Will in-person volunteer opportunities still be available for this spring?
Boston University has moved classes and gatherings online for the duration of the semester. In the interest of the safety of our students and community partners and to help efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19, in-person volunteer opportunities will no longer be available for the duration of the spring semester.

What virtual opportunities are there to continue supporting the work of our community partners?
The Community Service Center is currently curating a list of virtual and distance based volunteer and engagement opportunities. Check back here soon for more information.

Where can I find information about the university’s response to COVID-19 and resources for students?
Information about the University’s response to the disease and resources for students are available via BU’s novel coronavirus, COVID-19 website.

For Community Partners

In order to protect our community and prevent the further spreading of COVID-19, the Boston University Community Service Center will not be sending volunteers to our community partner sites. Boston University recently announced that in-person classes and gatherings have been cancelled and moved online for the duration of the semester, and most students are no longer on campus.

We recognize that the work of our community partners does not end in the face of this pandemic, in many cases this is where much of the work begins. In these unprecedented times, we want to acknowledge the burden this decision may place on you and extend our continued solidarity and support of your mission and work. If there are ways in which we can support your organization virtually or from a distance, please be in touch with your Community Service Center program contact or our main email at When it is safer to do so, we hope to once again send our student volunteers to support your work.

The Community Service Center will continue to operate remotely. Should you have questions or concerns, we encourage you to reach out to us at or leave a voicemail at 617-353-4710.
