CentOS is based on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux distribution.\u00a0 As installed and configured by the departmental IT staff, it will come with some additions and customizations to take advantage of a variety of BU and departmental resources.\u00a0 While we will make an attempt to assist you with basic problems on systems running other Linux distributions, we do not provide any formal support for distros other than CentOS, and such systems will have access to only a more limited subset of departmental resources.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the standard software packages distributed with CentOS, there are many 3rd party software repositories available.\u00a0 While we will attempt to assist you in configuring any additional repositories you may require on your personal machines, we are unable to vouch for the quality or compatibility of 3rd party repos, and as such support for this software will be extremely limited.<\/p>\n<p>IS&amp;T also provides and supports the following 3rd party software in the Linux environments.\u00a0 All of these software packages are already present and available for use on all CS Linux systems:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Matlab<\/li>\n<li>Mathematica<\/li>\n<li>S-Plus<\/li>\n<li>Maple<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Mac OS X operating system<\/h2>\n<p>Along with the standard applications that come with OS X we also provide and support a number of common 3rd party applications, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft Office for Mac<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft Visual Studio<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft Remote Desktop Client<\/li>\n<li>Xcode<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Microsoft Windows operating system<\/h2>\n<p>The CS department also uses and supports the Microsoft Windows operating system. We currently support Windows 10, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7\u00a0Professional.\u00a0 We also provide and support a number of common 3rd party applications, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft Office<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft Visual Studio<\/li>\n<li>programming languages and development environments (Anaconda, Python, Java, Eclipse IDE, etc)<\/li>\n<li>Matlab<\/li>\n<li>PuTTY (ssh) and FileZilla (sftp and scp)<\/li>\n<li>plus other software as needed for individual courses or research projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Linux operating system We use and support CentOS\u00a0on our Linux systems.
