{"id":16227,"date":"2022-07-22T11:18:14","date_gmt":"2022-07-22T15:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cs\/?page_id=16227"},"modified":"2023-01-16T10:19:22","modified_gmt":"2023-01-16T15:19:22","slug":"initiatives","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cs\/about\/people\/diversity\/initiatives\/","title":{"rendered":"DEI Initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Initiatives<\/h3>\n<p>Here is how we&#8217;re approaching each part of our mission statement.<\/p>\n<h4>Recruitment and Retention<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>We have a DEI statement on all job postings<\/li>\n<li>We are part of the Faculty of Computing &amp; Data Sciences&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/diversity\/2022\/03\/30\/emerging-scholars-program-2022-23\/\">Emerging Scholars Series<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Faculty search committee members undergo a mandatory DEI training<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/diversity\/initiatives-data\/faculty-hiring\/\">University-wide Initiatives<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/diversity\/our-communities\/fscn\/\">Faculty and Staff Community Networks<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Curriculum and Academic Programming<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>We are working with the College of Arts &amp; Sciences (CAS) Associate Dean of Diversity &amp; Inclusion to provide DEI training to teaching fellows<\/li>\n<li>Department staff attend DEI workshops and some have completed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/about\/diversity-inclusion-cas\/\">CAS Staff Institute<\/a><\/li>\n<li>We have taught a class on <a href=\"https:\/\/cs-people.bu.edu\/sameki\/ResponsibleAI.html\">Fairness in Artificial Intelligence<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Professional Development<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>We sponsor the <a href=\"https:\/\/tapiaconference.cmd-it.org\">Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing<\/a> annually and we attend the event and send a contingency of students<\/li>\n<li>We sponsor the <a href=\"https:\/\/ghc.anitab.org\">Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing<\/a> annually and we attend the event and send a contingency of students<\/li>\n<li>We are an Academic Partner of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/accesscomputing\/\">AccessComputing<\/a>. AccessComputing provides mentoring and some limited funding for career development activities for students with disabilities in computing-related fields. Find <span>the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/accesscomputing\/accesscomputing-team-application\" target=\"_blank\" contenteditable=\"false\" title=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/accesscomputing\/accesscomputing-team-application\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">student team member application<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Community Engagement and Feedback<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>We aided in the collection of a climate survey through the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/dei-in-tech\/\">DEI Tech Collective<\/a><\/li>\n<li>We hosted DEI Listening Sessions in Spring 2022<\/li>\n<li>Support of Student Groups through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/spark\/students\/ignite\/\">Ignite Student Leadership Council<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/spark\/\">Spark!<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Tracking Key Metrics<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>We will leverage <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/dei-in-tech\/state-of-dei-in-tech\/\">data collected with the DEI Tech Collective<\/a> to track key metrics and measure the success of our initiatives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Initiatives Here is how we&#8217;re approaching each part of our mission statement.
