Will open in April.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>This course is intended for <strong>CAS undergraduate students<\/strong> interested in completing a <strong>summer<\/strong> internship in a computing industry company. See below for more details about the course and how to apply.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Note that this course is offered only during the<strong> summer<\/strong> and\u00a0 that is the only period during the year when the CS department sponsors CPT.<\/p>\n<p>Students who are interested in IN 399 must submit their application no later than the last day to add a standard class for the semester their internship will occur.<\/p>\n<p>IN 399 : Internship in Computer Science is a Pass\/Fail undergraduate course, taken for 2 credit over the summer. For <strong>domestic students<\/strong>, this course is <em>not<\/em> required to take an internship, although they may do so if they wish to see internship credit on their transcript. For <strong>international students<\/strong>, this course is required to use CPT.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\">Some highlights:<\/div>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\" data-editing-info=\"{&quot;applyListStyleFromLevel&quot;:true,&quot;unorderedStyleType&quot;:1}\">\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\" role=\"presentation\">Tuition fees are waived (it\u2019s free)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\" role=\"presentation\">Course is 2 credits (less than 20 hrs\/week of work) or 4 credits (more than 20 hours)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\" role=\"presentation\">Credits do NOT count towards the 128 total, nor to any major requirements, the course does show up on your transcript.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\" role=\"presentation\">Students can repeat this course up to 3 times<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\" role=\"presentation\">Students have to find the internships themselves, they have to submit appropriate documentation<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\" role=\"presentation\">There is a learning component to it &#8211; students will complete a self-paced course on \u00a0Blackboard related to professional work. (see the attached syllabus for the modules)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\" role=\"presentation\">While domestic students are allowed to take this course, there is no benefit to them.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\">Going forward, please advise students to enroll in IN399 and not CS298.<\/div>\n<h3>How do I register?<\/h3>\n<p>In order to register for IN 399 , you must submit a short <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cs\/undergraduate\/undergraduate-life\/cs-298-undergraduate-internship-in-computer-science\/cs-298-application\/\"><strong>application<\/strong><\/a>, which will be reviewed by Department Manager . If they approves your application, you will be automatically registered for the course for 1 credit.<\/p>\n<p><em>For international students:<\/em> please read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/isso\/employment-internships\/student-off-campus-work-and-training\/curricular-practical-training-cpt-f-1\/\">this webpage on the ISSO website<\/a> about CPT requirements thoroughly.\u00a0<span>Please note that it will take time to go through the full process required for approving any internship, including getting ISSO approval for CPT requests. Please\u00a0<\/span><strong>start early<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span>if you are planning on internships (at least 1.5-2 months prior, if you are using CPT) and please be patient with the process.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>What is expected for course participation?<\/h3>\n<p>This course does not meet regularly every week. Instead, this course requires that you submit short <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cs\/undergraduate\/undergraduate-life\/cs-298-undergraduate-internship-in-computer-science\/cs-298-check-in\/\">reports<\/a><\/strong>, once every two weeks throughout the duration of your internship. At the end of your internship, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cs\/undergraduate\/undergraduate-life\/cs-298-undergraduate-internship-in-computer-science\/cs-298-final-report\/\"><strong>final report<\/strong><\/a> detailing the work you have done in the internship needs to be submitted.
