BU Computer Science Welcomes Alumna Dr. Gonca Gürsun (GRS ’13) as 2026 Convocation Guest Speaker

The Boston University Computer Science Department is proud to announce that alumna Dr. Gonca Gürsun (GRS ‘13) will serve as the guest speaker for the 2026 Computer Science Convocation Ceremony.
Dr. Gürsun earned her PhD in Computer Science from Boston University’s Graduate School of Arts & Sciences in 2013. She specializes in behavior learning for complex, real-world systems, developing advanced models that enable intelligent decision-making in dynamic environments.
Her research has played a key role in advancing autonomous driving technologies, with systems she helped develop deployed by major automotive manufacturers across 16 European countries and the United States. These innovations support safer, more adaptive, and more natural driving behavior, demonstrating the transformative impact of computer science on modern transportation and intelligent systems.
In recognition of her groundbreaking contributions, Dr. Gürsun was named Bosch’s 2025 Inventor of the Year, selected from a global pool of researchers and developers — a distinction that highlights the global reach and real-world significance of her work.
Dr. Gürsun s professional journey reflects the spirit of innovation, technical excellence, and perseverance that define the Boston University Computer Science community. As a member of the Class of 2013, she represents the lasting impact of BU graduates and the diverse paths our alumni pursue across industry and research.
