GRS Graduate Internship Funding Program (GIF)
The BU Graduate School of Arts and Sciences seeks applications for its newest graduate funding initiatives, the Graduate Internship Funding Program (GIF). The purpose of this program is to encourage our PhD students to seek out new opportunities for professional development by funding internships. This summer, the GIF program will operate as a pilot program – we hope that we can expand its scope in the future. - Purpose: To fund unpaid internships and encourage our students to seek opportunities that can enhance their academic and professional experience.
- Deadline: April 1st, 2024 11:59 ET
- Stipend Amount: $7,000

Eligibility
- Who: Current GRS PhD students in good academic standing, who do not hold any additional BU-supported summer teaching fellowships, internships, or other fellowships for Summer 2024 (This does not apply to BU grants or stipends included as part of the admissions package).
- What: Students must have an unpaid internship with a not-for-profit organization in Massachusetts. Internships should require at least 20 hours of weekly service and run for approximately 10 weeks.
- When: Internships must run between June and August 2024 (if the internship begins in May, it can be considered, but it must begin after the Spring Semester).
Application Materials
- Current CV
- Cover letter that outlines why they applied for the internship, what they hope to gain from their role, and how it aligns with their professional goals. 250-1000 words.
- Internship Offer Letter/Email
- 1 letter of recommendation from the applicant’s BU Faculty Advisor, confirming support. (Submitted via InfoReady by April 5th, 2024)
