Thank you for your interest in the Boston University MFA Program in Creative Writing<\/a><\/strong>, one of the oldest and most prestigious programs in this country. Our alumni in poetry include Elizabeth Alexander, Erin Belieu, Aaron Caycedo-Kimura, Rafael Campo, Melissa Green, Glyn Maxwell, Carl Phillips and Don Share; in fiction, our alumni include A.J. Bermudez, Peter Ho Davies, Arthur Golden, Ha Jin, Jhumpa Lahiri, Askold Melnyczuk, Weike Wang, and Lisa Taddeo.<\/p>\n

Our program offers the chance for poets and fiction writers to earn their degree in a single academic year, usually including summer study. Our program also offers practical experience in teaching creative writing at the high school level or as an instructor of record at the undergraduate level.<\/p>\n

The accelerated nature of the program creates close bonds between each year\u2019s cohorts of poets and fiction writers, who also benefit from the intellectual and artistic stimulation of being part of a large university in one of the most lively and beautiful cities in the United States.<\/p>\n

Our students have the opportunity for world language study, with the option of taking BU\u2019s renowned Translation Seminar. For those who choose to apply for our Global Fellowships, this study culminates in an opportunity to travel, write, and study for a period of up to three months anywhere outside the United States. Students are encouraged, but not required, to take their fellowships in countries where English is not widely spoken.<\/p>\n

Please note that the MFA in Playwriting is now separate from the Creative Writing Program in Fiction and Poetry.<\/strong> Playwriting is now a three-year program housed in the College of Fine Arts at the Boston Playwrights\u2019 Theater.
