Favorite thing about Boston (so far): The people I\u2019ve met, The Sox, convenience stores<\/span><\/p>\n

Writer that inspires you most: Karl Ove Knausg\u00e5rd or Claire Keegan or Flannery O\u2019Connor<\/span><\/p>\n

What you wanted to be when you grew up: A person who works with gorillas, lions, or tigers<\/span><\/p>\n

Project you\u2019re working on at BU: A novel<\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite animal: Chimpanzee or Great White Shark<\/span><\/p>\n

Poem, story, or essay you\u2019re most excited to put on your syllabus: \u201cA Perfect Day for Bananafish\u201d by Salinger<\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite movie: Trainspotting<\/em> or Am\u00e9lie<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

What made you want to be a writer: A collection of books I read while trying to be other things.<\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite non-water beverage: Red wine or a negroni<\/span><\/p>\n

What made you want to apply to BU: the program\u2019s history + the city + the faculty<\/span><\/p>\n

Advice for folks considering applying to MFA programs: Go for fully funded (unless you\u2019re loaded) + read the work of the programs\u2019 alum<\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite thing about Boston (so far): The people! Everyone I\u2019ve met has been perfectly lovely.<\/span><\/p>\n

Writer that inspires you most: Virginia Woolf<\/span><\/p>\n

What you wanted to be when you grew up: A writer!<\/span><\/p>\n

Project you\u2019re working on at BU: A manuscript of poems<\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite animal: Lizards + cows<\/span><\/p>\n

Poem, story, or essay you\u2019re most excited to put on your syllabus: \u201cAn American Poem\u201d \u2013 Eileen Myles<\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite movie: The Wizard of Oz<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

What made you want to be a writer: I don\u2019t remember a time when I didn\u2019t want to write. I\u2019m sure my fondness for reading (instilled in me at a young age) had something to do with it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite non-water beverage: Black coffee<\/span><\/p>\n

What made you want to apply to BU: It has a fabulous program!<\/span><\/p>\n

Advice for folks considering applying to MFA programs: Apply! Do not be dissuaded by doubt!<\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite thing about Boston (so far): All of the water & wildlife (turkeys, pigeons, rats, rabbits)<\/span><\/p>\n

Writer that inspires you most: Dorothy Allison<\/span><\/p>\n

What you wanted to be when you grew up: a writer or actor \u2013 famous?<\/span><\/p>\n

Project you\u2019re working on at BU: Some of the most deranged pseudo-autofiction<\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite animal: Cats \u2013 I appreciate that we\u2019re one of their favorite animals. Same with dogs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Poem, story, or essay you\u2019re most excited to put on your syllabus: \u201cLife Among the Savages\u201d by Shirley Jackson<\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite movie: But I\u2019m a Cheerleader<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

What made you want to be a writer: I care about storytelling more than anything else & I like that writing is a way to talk to strangers<\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite non-water beverage: Cider from The Dugout (RIP)<\/span><\/p>\n

Advice for folks considering applying to MFA programs: If possible, pick a school somewhere lovely. Email the programs. Make spreadsheets. Read anything you\u2019ve been meaning to read.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
