{"id":27500,"date":"2026-06-03T11:28:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T15:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/?p=27500"},"modified":"2026-06-11T09:43:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T13:43:11","slug":"2026-summer-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/2026\/06\/03\/2026-summer-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"2026 Summer Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/cpo\/files\/2026\/06\/Interior-Gym-Render-e1780500448599-636x316.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"636\" height=\"316\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-27501\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/files\/2026\/06\/Interior-Gym-Render-e1780500448599-636x316.jpg 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/files\/2026\/06\/Interior-Gym-Render-e1780500448599-1024x509.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/files\/2026\/06\/Interior-Gym-Render-e1780500448599-768x382.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/files\/2026\/06\/Interior-Gym-Render-e1780500448599-1536x764.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/files\/2026\/06\/Interior-Gym-Render-e1780500448599-2048x1018.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Planning, Design &amp; Construction (PDC)<\/strong> and <strong>Facilities Management &amp; Operations (FMO)<\/strong> teams are preparing for another busy summer supporting new faculty, enhancing teaching and research spaces, and advancing key infrastructure projects across our campuses.<\/p>\n<p>Below is a preview of some of the projects planned for this summer:<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Charles River Campus<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At the <strong>Track &amp; Tennis Center (100 Ashford Street)<\/strong>, a new videoboard will improve the experience for athletic events and new lighting control and LED lighting will be installed.<\/li>\n<li>At the <strong>West Campus Residences (273-277 Babcock Street)<\/strong> over 800 LED light fixtures will be replaced in hallways.<\/li>\n<li>At <strong>285 Babcock Street<\/strong>, work will continue to enhance the men\u2019s lacrosse locker rooms<\/li>\n<li>The women&#8217;s softball field on <strong>Malvern Street<\/strong> will see multi-phased improvements including new bleachers, a press box, and updated signage.<\/li>\n<li>At <strong>25 Buick Street<\/strong>, construction will continue on a new accommodated testing center adjacent to the Disability &amp; Access Services offices on the third floor.<\/li>\n<li>At <strong>881 Commonwealth Avenue<\/strong>, a feasibility study and conceptual design effort will help inform the scope of future envelope improvements.<\/li>\n<li>At the <strong>College of Fine Arts (855 Commonwealth Avenue)<\/strong>, upgrades to lighting, ceilings, and corridors will improve shared academic spaces, and a new wellness room will support student wellbeing.<\/li>\n<li>Classrooms in several locations on the Charles River Campus, including the <strong>College of General Studies (871 Commonwealth Avenue), College of Communication (640 Commonwealth Avenue), and Questrom School of Business (595 Commonwealth Avenue)<\/strong>, will be fully refreshed with updated audiovisual systems, furniture, and finishes to enhance the learning environment.<\/li>\n<li>At <strong>BU Academy (1 University Road)<\/strong>, fa\u00e7ade restoration will continue to restore the building exterior and long-term structural integrity.<\/li>\n<li>At <strong>Mugar Library<\/strong> and the <strong>George Sherman Union\u00a0(771 and 775 Commonwealth Avenue<\/strong>, exploratory work will continue to help inform the scope of future envelope improvements.<\/li>\n<li>At the <strong>Stone Science Building<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>675 Commonwealth Avenue)<\/strong>, upgrades to fire protection and alarm systems will enhance building safety.<\/li>\n<li>At<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>the <strong>Photonics Center (8 St. Mary\u2019s Street)<\/strong>, lab renovations and a new research lab will support incoming faculty and program growth.<\/li>\n<li>A campus-wide initiative will refresh residence hall lounges on<strong> Bay State Road<\/strong>, improving shared student spaces across multiple buildings.<\/li>\n<li>At <strong>264\u2013270 Bay State Road<\/strong>, Phase 3 of the School of Social Work renovations will continue, with updates to classrooms, offices, and shared spaces as part of a multi-year modernization effort.<\/li>\n<li>Work will wrap up in<strong> A Tower <\/strong>and the <strong>Dining Hall at Warren Towers (700 Commonwealth Avenue)<\/strong> as part of the building\u2019s multi-year renovation.<\/li>\n<li>Roof replacements at <strong>48 and 50\u201352 Buswell Street<\/strong> will help protect buildings and extend their lifespan.<\/li>\n<li>The hot water system for<strong> 514-522 Park Drive<\/strong>, an undergraduate residence hall, will be upgraded.<\/li>\n<li>At<strong> 712 Beacon Street<\/strong>, work will continue on the first-floor instructional chemistry teaching labs. Once completed in time for the fall semester, first-year chemistry students will benefit from new state-of-the-art laboratory spaces. Additionally, upgrades will be made to the building automation system.<\/li>\n<li>At <strong>30\u201338 Cummington Mall<\/strong>, installation of safety equipment will support ongoing lab compliance and operations.<\/li>\n<li>New cooling towers will be installed at the <strong>Life Science and Engineering Building (24 Cummington Mall)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Undergraduate apartments at <strong>844 Beacon Street<\/strong> will be refreshed with new kitchens and bathrooms.<\/li>\n<li>To support Questrom&#8217;s\u00a0growing Online MBA program, new studio spaces are being built out at<strong> 540 Commonwealth Avenue<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u><strong>Fenway Campus<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At <strong>180\u2013200 Riverway<\/strong>, two School of Social Work research centers will be relocated to bring programs together and improve collaboration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u><strong>Medical Campus<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At<strong> 72 East Concord Street (L Building)<\/strong>, a new fitness center will be created by renovating existing space, adding a shared amenity for the campus community.
