In collaboration with the Commonwealth’s Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM), BU is planning to modernize the main electrical service station that serves the core of the Medical Campus. The primary objective of this project is to upgrade all breakers and controls to ensure greater reliability performance and longevity for one of the main feeders of electrical service to the Medical Campus from the Eversource power grid.

The long weekend of October 7-9, 2023 has been designated for this essential maintenance work to allow ample time to make these improvements to the Medical Campus electrical infrastructure. During this period, the following buildings – L, R, A, B, K, E, C, & D (highlighted on map below) – will be powered solely on life safety emergency/generator power.

We are providing several months’ notice so that you can minimize any disruptions to your experiments and other activities.

In August, Facilities Management & Operations (FMO) will begin coordinating with departments and occupants of affected buildings to take proactive steps to safeguard the integrity of valuable research, ensure the continuity of essential services, and minimize any potential inconvenience caused by the scheduled electrical shutdown. To ensure minimal disruption during this shutdown, departments and occupants of these buildings should:

Create inventory of freezers, refrigerators, and critical research equipment that require continuous power supply.

Work with FMO to ensure all identified freezers, refrigerators, and critical research equipment are plugged into emergency electrical outlets.
