{"id":22201,"date":"2021-01-15T15:08:04","date_gmt":"2021-01-15T19:08:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/?p=22201"},"modified":"2023-04-12T13:26:21","modified_gmt":"2023-04-12T17:26:21","slug":"center-for-computing-data-sciences-construction-update-1-15-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/2021\/01\/15\/center-for-computing-data-sciences-construction-update-1-15-20\/","title":{"rendered":"Center for Computing &#038; Data Sciences \u2013 Construction Update \u2013 1\/15\/21"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>During the weekend of January 16<sup>th<\/sup><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Crews will be on site Saturday to continue to install rebar and formwork at various locations for the tower\u2019s foundation and core systems.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Crews will be coring a hole in the west foundation wall of Sargent College for the installation of a telecommunications conduit.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>During the week of January 18<sup>th<\/sup><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Removal of the cross-lot bracing and wales from the Support Of Excavation (SOE) system continues. Wales are steel beams that are attached horizontally to the\u00a0Support Of Excavation (SOE) sheets to provide rigidity and an attachment point for the cross-lot braces.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Following the installation of the helical piles\u00a0for the bike shelter, crews will focus on installing utilities in the area, including an electrical and telecommunications duct bank.\u00a0Helical piles are\u00a0a\u00a0deep foundation system consisting of a bar drilled into the ground and filled with structural grout. The piles will then be connected with rebar at the ground level to form the concrete foundation pad.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Horizontal piping will be installed, connecting geothermal wells 4, 5, and 6 to each other before connecting to the building&#8217;s manifold.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Installation of the duct tunnel will begin in the podium and work towards the tower. A duct tunnel consists of ductwork encased in concrete (forming the tunnel) below the finish slab in the basement. Once the duct tunnel is installed, the finish slab will be installed on top.\u00a0Preparations will begin for the installation of under-slab ductwork including formwork, reinforcing, and concrete.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Rebar and formwork installation will continue at the exterior foundation walls along the south and will begin at the west wall. Concrete placements of these walls will continue in sections as the rebar installation progresses.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Following last week\u2019s concrete placement of the core\u2019s subbasement and lower levels, rebar installation will continue, and the formwork will be removed and reinstalled for the next placement of the ground and first floors.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered.
