Elevators are inspected by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mass.gov\/eopss\/consumer-prot-and-bus-lic\/license-type\/elevators\/elevators.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Massachusetts Department of Public Safety<\/a> on an annual basis. The University is especially sensitive to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/what-we-do\/buildings\/accessibility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accessibility<\/a> issues for those with disabilities. For more information about campus accessibility, please visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/disability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Disability Services<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NEW\">Any <strong>problems or malfunctions<\/strong>\u00a0 on the CRC or Fenway campuses should be reported as soon as possible to the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/who-we-are\/operations-services\/\">Operations Service Center<\/a> at 617-353-2105 or the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/publicsafety\/control-center\/\">Control Center<\/a> at 617-358-4144 if you are on the Medical Campus<\/strong>. Often, problems occur on an irregular or intermittent basis, and if symptoms are reported as soon as they occur\u2014and each time they occur\u2014more serious problems can be averted.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"NEW\">Elevator Overloads<\/h3>\n<p class=\"NEW\">Care must be given not to overload elevators. Each elevator has a specific weight and passenger capacity that is posted in the elevator. If an elevator is overloaded it may well shut down between floors and trap you inside.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"NEW\">What to do if you get stuck in an elevator<\/h3>\n<p class=\"NEW\">If you get stuck in an elevator, push the alarm bell, and <strong>use the emergency phone<\/strong> (if there is one). These phones automatically ring at our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/who-we-are\/operations-services\/\">Operations Service Center<\/a> if you are on the Charles River Campus or Fenway Campus, or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/publicsafety\/control-center\/\">Control Center<\/a> if you are on the Medical Campus. If there isn\u2019t an emergency phone, on your cell phone call the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/who-we-are\/operations-services\/\">Operations Service Center<\/a> at 617-353-2105 if you are on the Charles River Campus or Fenway Campus, or the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/publicsafety\/control-center\/\">Control Center<\/a> at 617-358-4144 if you are on the Medical Campus. Give the answering supervisor as much information as possible, including the elevator\u2019s location, and they will dispatch immediate assistance. Stay calm and wait for help to come to get the doors open.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"NEW\">If you find an elevator that is stuck on a floor or has a problem, but is still operating<\/h3>\n<p class=\"NEW\">Call the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/who-we-are\/operations-services\/\">Operations Service Center<\/a> at 617-353-2105 if you are on the Charles River Campus or Fenway Campus, or the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/publicsafety\/control-center\/\">Control Center<\/a> at 617-358-4144 if you are on the Medical Campus and provide the elevator\u2019s location and as complete a description of the problem as possible.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"NEW\">If you hear an elevator alarm ringing<\/h3>\n<p>Contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cpo\/who-we-are\/operations-services\/\">Operations Service Center<\/a> at 617-353-2105 if you are on the Charles River Campus or Fenway Campus, or the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/publicsafety\/control-center\/\">Control Center<\/a> at 617-358-4144 if you are on the Medical Campus and provide the elevator\u2019s location and as much information as possible.
