Warren Towers Renovation Construction Update – 2/20/26

General Project Information

  • Weekday shifts run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (1st shift), 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (1st shift for work outside/adjacent to student rooms), 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (2nd shift), and 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (3rd shift). Weekend shifts operate from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • The team is currently in the main renovation phase of the project.

Exterior Work

Tower A

Pictured is the progress on Tower A.

4th Floor Podium Roofs

  • Low roofs will be used as laydown areas for tools, supplies, and materials.

East & West Facades

  • Masons will continue exterior brick veneer restoration work, including selective demolition and installation of restoration anchors, air-, water-, and vapor-barrier systems, new lintels, flashings, and relieving angles.

Front Façade and on Commonwealth Ave.

  • Masons will continue exterior brick veneer restoration work, including selective demolition and installation of restoration anchors, air-, water-, and vapor-barrier systems, new lintels, flashings, and relieving angles.

Rear Façade and Back Alley

  • Installation of windows and metal trim begins.
  • Masons will continue exterior brick veneer restoration work, including selective demolition and installation of restoration anchors, air-, water-, and vapor-barrier systems, new lintels, flashings, and relieving angles.

Upper Roof

  • Work on the emergency backup generator connections continues.
  • Work continues constructing the new mechanical penthouse and emergency electric room.
  • Assembly and installation of the DOAS unit, piping, sheet metal ductwork, and electrical connections continue.
  • Installation of metal panel roof screen begins.

      Tower B

      North, south, east, and west facades

      • Staging crews will continue assembling scaffolding.

      West Podium Terrace

      • Assembly and installation of heat pumps and condensers, including piping and electrical connections, continues on the mechanical platform.

      Multipurpose Room Roof (Podium D)

      • Work continues constructing the new boiler room.

      Cummington Mall
      (In and around the fenced area)

      Pictured is the view of Warren from the south.
      • Daily deliveries of tools, supplies, and materials will be received at the construction loading docks within the fenced area.
      • Two-car personnel and materials hoist way remains in operation.
        • (Elevator operators begin daily safety checks and preventative maintenance at 6:00 a.m.)
      • Tower B hoist way bridge construction is ongoing.

      Cummington Mall West/ Hinsdale Mall

      • BUPD detail officers and construction staff will be on-site to assist with pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

      Commonwealth Avenue

      • Crews will be constructing a temporary enclosure on Commonwealth Avenue’s sidewalk.

      Interior Work

      Tower A

      • Rough-in of HVAC piping, electrical, fire alarm, plumbing, and sheet metal ductwork continues.
      • Pressure testing of mechanical piping and sheet metal ductwork continues.
      • Steel stud framing of interior partitions and soffits continues.
      • Installation of hollow metal door frames continues.
      • Application of spray fireproofing, expanding foam insulation, and firestopping continues.
      • New window installation continues.
      • Drywall installation and taping continues.
      • Plaster patching at columns and beams continues.
      • Stair handrail and riser alterations are ongoing.
      • Priming and painting of walls, ceilings, soffits, doors, and door frames continues.
      • Floor and wall preparation and waterproofing is ongoing in the core bathrooms.

      • Installing flooring and bases in student dorm rooms.

      • Modernization of the Tower elevators by Otis Elevator Company continues.

            Parking Garage 

            • Electricians continue running wiring, conduits, and electrical gear throughout Levels 1–3.
            Pictured is the Towers emergency generator transfer switches.
            • Plumbers continue installing new water and drain lines in the basement and Levels 1–3.
            • Concrete and steel structural repairs continue on Levels 1–3.
            • Sprinkler work continues on basement and Levels 1–3.
            • Masons continue installing block walls in the new mechanical and electrical rooms.

                    • Carpenters will be working on the roof screen assembly.

                      • Daily deliveries of tools, supplies, and materials will continue.
                      • Two-car personnel and materials hoist way remains in operation.
                        • (Elevator operators begin daily safety checks and preventative maintenance at 6:00 a.m.)
                      • Temporary elevator hoist way and bridge beam assembly for Tower B continues and impacts two entry/exit doors at 111 Cummington Mall.

                        Cummington Mall West / Hinsdale Mall

                        • BUPD detail officers and construction staff will be on-site.

                        Commonwealth Avenue

                        • Crews are cutting in a new door opening into the fire pump room from a temporary enclosure on the Commonwealth Avenue sidewalk.

                        Interior Work

                        Tower A

                                Parking Garage

                                • Work continues in the main electrical room.
                                • Electricians will continue running wiring and conduits throughout the parking garage on levels 1-3.
                                • Installation of electrical gear continues.
                                • Plumbers will continue installing new water and drain lines in the basement and levels 1-3.
