Warren Towers Renovation Construction Update – 2/6/2026

General Project Information

  • Weekday shifts run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (1st shift), 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (1st shift for work outside/adjacent to student rooms), 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (2nd shift), and 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (3rd shift). Weekend shifts operate from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • The team is currently in the main renovation phase of the project.

Saturday 1:00 a.m. – 6 p.m. | Sunday (1st shift)  (2nd, 3rd shift – clearing snow and ice if needed)

Exterior Work

Tower A

4th Floor Podium Roofs

  • Low roofs will be used as laydown areas for tools, supplies, and materials.

East & West Facades

  • Masons will continue exterior brick veneer restoration work, including selective demolition and installation of restoration anchors, air-, water-, and vapor-barrier systems, new lintels, flashings, and relieving angles.

Front Façade and on Commonwealth Ave.

  • Masons will continue exterior brick veneer restoration work, including selective demolition and installation of restoration anchors, air-, water-, and vapor-barrier systems, new lintels, flashings, and relieving angles.

Rear Façade and Back Alley

  • Masons will continue exterior brick veneer restoration work, including selective demolition and installation of restoration anchors, air-, water-, and vapor-barrier systems, new lintels, flashings, and relieving angles.

Upper Roof

  • A large crane will begin setting the emergency backup generator onto the roof of Tower A on Saturday.

  • Work continues constructing the new mechanical penthouse and emergency electric room.
  • Assembly and installation of the DOAS unit, piping, sheet metal ductwork, and electrical connections continue.

Tower B

North, south, east, and west facades

  • Staging crews will load the materials onto the lower roofs on Saturday with a crane.

West Podium Terrace

  • A crane will be lifting supplies and materials onto the mechanical platform on Saturday, starting at 9:00 a.m.
  • Assembly and installation of heat pumps and condensers, including piping and electrical connections, continues on the mechanical platform.

Multipurpose Room Roof (Podium D)

  • Work continues constructing the new boiler room.

Cummington Mall
(In and around the fenced area)

Pictured is the worksite from afar.
  • Daily deliveries of tools, supplies, and materials will be received at the construction loading docks within the fenced area.
  • Two-car personnel and materials hoist way remains in operation.
    • (Elevator operators begin daily safety checks and preventative maintenance at 6:00 a.m.)
  • Tower B hoist way bridge construction is ongoing.

Cummington Mall West

  • A crane will be set up in the street to hoist equipment to the west terrace roof.
  • BUPD detail officers and construction staff will be on-site to assist with pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Hinsdale Mall

  • A large crane will be set up in the street to hoist electrical equipment to the roof of Tower A.

Interior Work

Tower A

  • Installation of structural steel clips, plates, kickers and beam penetrations continues.
  • Rough-in of HVAC piping, electrical, fire alarm, plumbing, and sheet metal ductwork continues.

  • Pressure testing of mechanical piping and sheet metal ductwork continues.
  • Steel stud framing of interior partitions and soffits continues.
  • Installation of hollow metal door frames continues.
  • Application of spray fireproofing, expanding foam insulation, and firestopping continues.
  • New window installation continues.
  • Drywall installation and taping continues.

  • Stair handrail and riser alterations are ongoing.
  • Priming and painting of walls, ceilings, soffits, doors, and door frames continues.
  • Floor and wall preparation and waterproofing is ongoing.
  • Installation of fire protection sprinkler risers, mains, branch lines, and heads continues.
  • Modernization of the Tower elevators by Otis Elevator Company continues.

        Parking Garage 

        • Electricians continue running wiring, conduits, and electrical gear throughout Levels 1–3.

        • Plumbers continue installing new water and drain lines in the basement and Levels 1–3.
        • Concrete and steel structural repairs continue on Levels 1–3.

          • Installation of new windows and metal panels continues.

          Front Façade and on Commonwealth Ave.

                    • Continue performing FM Global Roof Uplift Testing on all roofs.
