Fathimath Anan (Anu) Ahmed is a PhD candidate in the Department of Anthropology. Prior to attending BU, Anu received her Bachelor’s (Hons) degree in Anthropology from Bates College in Maine. For her dissertation, Anu conducted 21.5 cumulative months of field research in the Maldives, where she exploredhow Maldivians experience madness and/or mental illness and how they construct themselves, along with their kin, as ethical “modern” subjects in the rapidly shifting sociopolitical context of the Greater Male’ Region. Anu is currently writing her dissertation, serving as the editorial assistant of the journalAsian Ethnology, and raising her rabbit Villa and several houseplants.
