The<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ethics\/\">President Statement of Commitment to Ethical Conduct<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>further reinforces that each Boston University community member shares the responsibility to promote a positive and ethical environment. To that end, members of the University community are expected to report concerns of suspected or alleged unethical conduct, noncompliance or violations of university policy, or law, or regulations, fraud, or any other improper conduct. In many circumstances, BU employees<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>must<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>report any suspected misconduct to the appropriate office.<\/p>\n<p>If you have reason to believe that violations of Boston University policy or other misconduct has occurred, including fraud, violations of the law, or other improper conduct, you should report your concerns through one of the following mechanisms listed on this webpage.<\/p>\n<p>If you are unsure about whether to report, or where and how to report your specific concern(s), please contact the Compliance Services Office for assistance at<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"mailto:comply@bu.edu\">comply@bu.edu<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>or through phone at 617-358-8090. All reports will be investigated promptly and discreetly by the University, receiving careful consideration with the objective of addressing any improper conduct or violation of University policy. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This hotline is not a substitute for, nor does it supersede, any existing reporting methods or protocols for handling concerns and complaints. Note that discussions with the Office are<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>off the record s<\/em>o people can consult the Ombuds<em>\u00a0before<\/em>\u00a0a problem escalates, and\u00a0<em>before\u00a0<\/em>a a decision to formally report a problem is made.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span><a href=\"https:\/\/secure.ethicspoint.com\/domain\/media\/en\/gui\/8779\/index.html\" title=\"EthicsPoint\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BU Ethics and Compliance Hotline<\/a><br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span>As described above, the\u00a0<\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/secure.ethicspoint.com\/domain\/media\/en\/gui\/8779\/index.html\">anonymous reporting hotline<\/a><\/span><span>\u00a0is independently administered to allow for anonymous and confidential reporting of activities that may involve improper conduct or violations of Boston University policies. Once your complaint is received, it will be thoroughly investigated by a person designated by the Chief.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/police\/contact\/encounter-inquiry-form\/\">Encounter Inquiry<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 If you have had an encounter with a member of the Boston University Police Department and you are unsure of the reason or validity, we invite you to inquire about it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Reporting Hazing<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Community members must report incidents of Hazing to the University using the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dos\/policies\/lifebook\/hazing-prevention-reporting\/report-hazing\/\"><strong>online Hazing report form<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0administered through the Office of the Dean of Students.<\/p>\n<p>Massachusetts law also provides that, if a person knows that another person is the victim of Hazing and is at the scene of such crime, they should report the crime to an appropriate law enforcement official as soon as reasonably practicable, to the extent they can do so without danger or peril to themselves or others. Failure to report a Hazing crime is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emergency Reporting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If the Hazing is life threatening, dangerous, violent, or otherwise poses risk of harm, community members should immediately contact the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/police\/\">Boston University Police Department<\/a>\u00a0at 617-353-2121 if they are on campus<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>or<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>call 911 or local law enforcement authorities for off campus hazing emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>After fulfilling the Emergency Reporting obligations outlined above, community members must also report the same incident of Hazing using the confidential<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dos\/policies\/lifebook\/hazing-prevention-reporting\/report-hazing\/\"><strong>online Hazing report form<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0administered through the Office of the Dean of Students.<\/p>\n<p>More information on Community members reporting obligations can be found in the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/policies\/hazing-prevention-policy\/\"><strong>Interim Hazing Prevention Policy<\/strong><\/a>,<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/policies\/hazing-prevention-policy\/#ToC_IIRepReq\"><strong>II.
