{"id":19,"date":"2024-08-26T14:38:54","date_gmt":"2024-08-26T18:38:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/communityvalues\/?page_id=19"},"modified":"2025-05-14T11:13:50","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T15:13:50","slug":"initiatives-programs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/communityvalues\/initiatives-programs\/","title":{"rendered":"What We&#8217;re Doing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>We are committed to building a campus culture where all people feel valued, empowered to do their best work, and free to openly express their points of view without retaliation, harassment, or bias.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In spring 2024, we launched two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/freeman\/2024\/01\/18\/moving-forward-together\/\">working groups<\/a> to address bias and harassment related to religion and current geopolitical events.\u00a0We invite you to read the initial recommendations <a href=\"\/communityvalues\/files\/2024\/09\/Recommendations-Final-June-15-2024_final.pdf\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"\/communityvalues\/files\/2024\/09\/H-Working-Group-Report-1.pdf\">here<\/a>, and <a href=\"\/communityvalues\/files\/2024\/09\/H-Working-Group-Report-2.pdf\">here<\/a>. This work continues to progress, with specific, related actions underway\u2014including training on how to recognize antisemitic bias, Islamophobia, and other forms of discrimination; making the community more aware of our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eoo\/get-help-now\/report\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">centralized reporting form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for incidents and concerns; expansion of support of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/chapel\/religion\/\">religious life<\/a>, including the University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/chapel\/about\/staff\/chaplains\/\">chaplaincy<\/a>, space for prayer, and dining options; revisions in process to the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Code<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Responsibilities<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to reflect concerns about doxxing and online harassment; and revisions to the policy on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/policies\/boston-university-events-and-demonstrations-policy\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Events &amp; Demonstrations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to more clearly define what is permissible and impermissible conduct. We have a particular commitment to engage in training for University and student leaders and Faculty Council members on recognizing antisemitism and Islamophobia biases and other forms of discrimination.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, the University continues to evaluate and implement the results of the 2023 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/belonging-culture-survey\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Belonging &amp; Culture Survey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an initiative led by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/community-inclusion\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BU Community &amp; Inclusion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to assess and address student, faculty, and staff\u2019s feelings of belonging and culture at the University, highlighting areas of concern and building on our existing strengths.
