Multiply that by hundreds of thousands and you have a vibrant and vital community with unlimited potential. Supporting Special Olympians, providing health care for people experiencing homelessness, and offering access to free or low-cost physical activities are just a few of the efforts we\u2019re engaged in.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dental\/community\/health-programs\/school-based\/\"><strong>Smart Smiles<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0BU&#8217;s Goldman School of Dental Medicine provides dental health education and important oral screenings for thousands of second graders in 29 Boston public elementary schools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmc.org\/immigrant-refugee-health-program.htm\"><strong>Immigrant &amp; Refugee Health Program<\/strong><\/a> cares for the medical, psychological, legal, and social needs of over 500 clients in the community from over 50 countries. <span class=\"phone-number\">617-414-5951<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>At our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dental\/patients\/treatment-center\/\"><strong>Patient Treatment Center<\/strong><\/a>, dental students and supervising faculty provide affordable, high-quality dental treatment to local residents. <span class=\"phone-number\">617-638-4700<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Since 2012, 100 local youths are awarded <strong>BU\u00a0athletic camp scholarships<\/strong> each year. <span class=\"phone-number\">617-353-9095<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>With the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bhchp.org\">Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program<\/a><\/strong>, BU is helping develop strategic planning for funding for medical care for Boston&#8217;s homeless population. <span class=\"phone-number\">857-654-1000<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The University provides <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dental\/community\/health-programs\/preschool\/\"><strong>oral\u00a0health screenings and referrals<\/strong><\/a> for children enrolled in ABCD Early Head Start Centers throughout Boston neighborhoods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dental\/2010\/06\/28\/record-number-of-volunteers-participate-in-healthy-athletes\u00ae-special-smiles\u00ae-initiative\/\">Healthy Athletes Special Smiles Initiative<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>volunteers provide free dental screenings to the Olympians at the Special Olympics Massachusetts games.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dental\/patients\/finance\/ryanwhite\/\"><strong>Ryan White CARE Act<\/strong><\/a>, BU\u2019s dental school gives treatment and other services to patients with HIV and AIDS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>BU&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/practice\/community-engagement\/partnership-in-health-and-housing\/\"><strong>Partnership in Health &amp; Housing<\/strong><\/a> works to improve the health and well-being of residents in public housing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A healthy body and healthy mind are intertwined.
