Oppliger\u2019s research focuses on the influence of the media and popular culture on adolescents\u2019 development, using a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods. She is the author of six books: &#8220;Wrestling and Hypermasculinity&#8221; (2004), &#8220;Girls Gone Skank: The Sexualization of Girls in American Culture&#8221; (2008), &#8220;Bullies and Mean Girls in Popular Culture&#8221; (2013), &#8220;Tweencom Girls: Gender and Adolescence in Disney and Nickelodeon Sitcoms&#8221; (2019), &#8220;The Dark Side of Stand-Up Comedy&#8221; (2020), and &#8220;Transmasculinity on Television&#8221; (2022).
