Previous recipients include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Connie Chung, <em>CBS<\/em><\/li><li>Dean Baquet, <em>New York Times<\/em><\/li><li>Carol Guzy, photojournalist<\/li><li>Ted Koppel, ABC<\/li><li>Sir Martin Sorrell, WPP<\/li><li>Pete Souza, White House photographer<\/li><li>Alex Gibney, documentary filmmaker<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Hugo Shong Reporting on Asia Award<\/strong> is presented to an individual who has displayed the highest standards of international journalism in a series of reports on matters of importance specific to Asia. McGovern, founder and chairman of Boston-headquartered International Data Group (IDG), Mr. Shong formed China\u2019s first technology venture capital firm, IDG Capital Partners, which was to invest in a string of China\u2019s most successful internet companies such as Baidu, Tencent (QQ), Sohu, Ctrip, and Soufun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Partnered with Accel Partners in 2005, IDG Capital Partners now has a total of US$3.8 billion and RMB 3.6 billion (US$600 million) under its management in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an award-winning journalist, Mr. Shong also launched and published over 40 magazines in China and Vietnam, including the Chinese editions of&nbsp;<em>Cosmopolitan<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Harper\u2019s Bazaar<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>National Geographic<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Men\u2019s Health<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Robert Report<\/em>, along with the Vietnamese editions of&nbsp;<em>PC World<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>CIO<\/em>&nbsp;magazines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Shong completed the Harvard Business School\u2019s Advanced Management Program in the fall of 1996. He conducted graduate studies at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy 1987\u201388 and earned his MS degree from Boston University\u2019s College of Communication in 1987. He studied Journalism at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences from 1984 to 1986 and he received a BA degree from Hunan University in 1982.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A recipient of Distinguished Alumni Award at the Boston University College of Communication in 1998, and Boston University Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2004, he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Boston University since 2005.
