We value the diverse perspectives students bring to our classrooms and encourage applicants from many different fields to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s the admission timeline?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most master&#8217;s applicants who apply by the February 1 priority deadline receive a decision by mid-March. Students who are admitted to our in-person (non-online) programs will also receive an admission decision in time to attend our Accepted Student Open House in early April.<\/li><li>Applications received after the priority deadline are reviewed on a rolling basis (and considered for scholarships that are still available after February 1) until the final deadline or until programs reach capacity. Please review our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/admissions\/graduate\/apply\/international-applicants\/\">International Student admissions requirements<\/a>&nbsp;before applying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Fee<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The non-refundable application fee of $95 is an application processing fee.&nbsp;For more information on application fee waivers, please visit <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/admissions\/graduate\/graduate-application-fee-waiver\/\" target=\"_blank\">this page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Transcripts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Upload unofficial transcript(s) for all completed or in-progress degree programs beyond high school (typically your bachelor&#8217;s degree and any master&#8217;s or doctoral degrees). In most cases, you do not need to submit transcripts from institutions where you completed individual courses or transfer coursework if those courses appear on the transcript from your degree-granting institution. If a transcript is not in English, an official English translation is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Official final transcripts will be required if you enroll. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants must complete a bachelor\u2019s degree from an accredited institution before enrolling. Three-year bachelor&#8217;s degrees from India are accepted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our programs do not require a specific undergraduate major or minimum GPA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If there is additional context you&#8217;d like us to consider regarding your academic record, you may address it elsewhere in your application, such as in your personal statement.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Letters of Recommendation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Master&#8217;s programs: <\/strong>minimum of <strong>2<\/strong> letters<\/li><li><strong>4+1 Bachelor&#8217;s to Master&#8217;s<\/strong> in Branded Content Production: minimum of 1 letter<\/li><li><strong>Graduate certificate<\/strong> in Civic Science Communication: no letters required<\/li><li><strong>PhD<\/strong>: minimum of 3 letters<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Choose recommenders who know your academic, professional, or creative work well and can speak to your potential for success in graduate study. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Letters of recommendation must be submitted online, directly from the recommender, via our application portal. If your recommender is having difficulty accessing the portal, they can email it to our office (comgrad@bu.edu) as a PDF, from <strong>their<\/strong> email account (i.e. it should not come from the applicant). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Helpful\/preferred letters include: <ul><li> A <strong>professor <\/strong>who can evaluate your academic abilities, the quality of your academic achievements, preparedness for graduate coursework, and your characteristics that will help you to be successful in graduate school.<\/li><li> A <strong>supervisor<\/strong>, either in a professional or other work capacity such as an internship, volunteer experience, etc., who can address your work performance, service commitment, or other areas of your background that are relevant to your success in a graduate program.<\/li><li>MFA in Screenwriting applicants are encouraged to seek recommendations from people who know their creative work.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Unhelpful letters include those from a peer or family member. Either format is acceptable. More information on creating a resume can be found on <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/for-current-students\/career-services\/career-guides\/\" target=\"_blank\">BU&#8217;s College of Communication Career Services website<\/a>, and information on a CV is on <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/careers\/how-to\/resumes-cvs\/\" target=\"_blank\">BU&#8217;s Center for Career Development website<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Kira Talent Assessment<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Most programs require a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/support.kiratalent.com\/article\/28-invited-to-kira-heres-what-to-expect\" target=\"_blank\">Kira Talent assessment,<\/a> which includes video and written responses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not a test, a live interview, or an AI interview\u2014think of it as an opportunity for the admission committee to get to know you beyond your application materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The questions were created and recorded by BU College of Communication faculty and staff\u2014not by AI\u2014and your responses are reviewed by our admission committee as part of our holistic application process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The assessment is completed asynchronously, allowing you to respond on your own schedule before the application deadline. You&#8217;ll receive access through your application portal.  The written question is separate from your personal statement and\/or writing sample required by your program of interest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The assessment typically takes 30-45 minutes, depending on how many practice questions you complete. You&#8217;ll have the opportunity to complete practice questions before recording your official responses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Be yourself.<\/li><li> Don&#8217;t worry about perfection.<\/li><li>We want to hear your authentic thoughts and communication style. Rather than reading from a prepared script, respond naturally\u2014we&#8217;re interested in how you think and communicate. <\/li><li>Practice questions are available before recording your responses.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Kira Talent is not required for the Civic Science Certificate or 4+1 Bachelor&#8217;s-to-Master&#8217;s in Branded Content Production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Academic integrity is an important part of the application process. We encourage you to use your own voice and experiences in all application materials, including the Kira Talent assessment. Our goal is to get to know you\u2014not a polished or AI-scripted version of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>Standardized Tests<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4>Graduate Record Examination (GRE)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Graduate Certificate:<\/strong> not required<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Master&#8217;s programs: <\/strong>not required<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PhD: <\/strong>GREs <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">are<\/span> required.
