The College of Communication has named prestigious New York Times<\/em> columnist David Carr<\/strong> as the first Andrew R. Lack professor. While continuing to write for The Times<\/em>, Carr will teach one class each semester \u2014 media criticism and another dedicated to exploring creative business models to support the future of journalism in the digital era.<\/p>\n

Dean Thomas Fiedler (’71)<\/a><\/strong> told The Boston Globe<\/em> that he is ecstatic about having Carr join the faculty at COM. \u201cI have been walking about 6 inches above the floor,\u201d said Fiedler.<\/p>\n

Carr will continue to work and the Times<\/em> and write his influential “Media Equation” column. Carr told BU Today<\/em> that he hopes his efforts at BU will \u201cmake students a little wiser, and that BU students will make him a little smarter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne course will be straight-up media criticism and the other will be more of an exploration of the information economy by participating in it,\u201d says Carr. \u201cStudents are going to have to make and distribute content of some form, although what that content will be is still up in the air.\u201d<\/p>\n
