{"id":8309,"date":"2016-09-27T09:37:58","date_gmt":"2016-09-27T13:37:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/?p=8309"},"modified":"2016-09-27T09:39:03","modified_gmt":"2016-09-27T13:39:03","slug":"larry-charles-talks-sitcoms-at-com-cinematheque-series","status":"publish","type":"bu-article","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/articles\/larry-charles-talks-sitcoms-at-com-cinematheque-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Larry Charles Talks &#8220;Seinfeld&#8221; at Cinematheque Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_8310\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8310\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/com\/files\/2016\/09\/h_butoday_16-10440-CHARLES-007.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Matthew Healey\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/files\/2016\/09\/h_butoday_16-10440-CHARLES-007.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/files\/2016\/09\/h_butoday_16-10440-CHARLES-007-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8310\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Matthew Healey<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Most people in the audience Friday night at the Photonics Center weren\u2019t born when\u00a0<em>Seinfeld<\/em>\u00a0first aired, but that didn\u2019t dampen their enthusiasm for an appearance by\u00a0<em>Seinfeld<\/em>\u00a0writer, producer, and Emmy-winner Larry Charles, who screened a selection of his work and answered questions.<\/p>\n<p>Charles was at the University as part of the College of Communication\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/academics\/what-we-do\/film-television\/cinematheque\/\">Cinematheque series<\/a>, which brings accomplished filmmakers to campus to screen and discuss their work.<\/p>\n<p>After leaving\u00a0<em>Seinfeld<\/em>\u00a0in 1994, Charles was a staff writer and executive producer for\u00a0<em>Mad about You<\/em>, produced and directed HBO\u2019s<em>\u00a0Curb Your Enthusiasm<\/em>, wrote and was executive producer for\u00a0<em>Entourage<\/em>, and directed Sacha Baron Cohen as the title characters in the hugely successful (and often wildly irreverent) mockumentary films\u00a0<em>Bruno<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Borat<\/em>. The evening started with his screening episodes of\u00a0<em>Seinfeld\u00a0<\/em>(\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0697652\/\">The Baby Shower<\/a>\u201d) and\u00a0<em>Curb Your Enthusiasm<\/em>\u00a0(\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1640888\/\">Mister Softee<\/a>\u201d) and the unaired pilot of a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtv.com\/news\/1596154\/kanye-wests-tv-show-too-hard-core-for-hbo-larry-charles-says\/\">Kanye West HBO series<\/a>\u00a0that never materialized.
