We will be proud to count them among our Boston University alumni and look forward to seeing the ways they will represent COM with distinction in the years ahead.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students self-nominate for the award with recommendation letters from faculty and internship advisors. The academic departments choose the recipients. Photo by Michelle DeLateur.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The evening also celebrated five recipients of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/about-com\/diversity-equity-inclusion\/leadership-excellence-award\/\">Erin Victoria Edwards Award for Leadership Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion<\/a>. The awards are made by COM\u2019s DEI Committee to COM seniors and graduate students for demonstrating strong leadership in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in their \u201cmajor fields of study, professional activities and internships, in the classroom, or in their communities at large.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a symbol of the award, COM presented each recipient with an honor cord, a certificate and a $500 stipend. The award is named in honor of Erin Victoria Edwards, a former COM student who demonstrated outstanding leadership through her DEI initiatives.&nbsp;The winners are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Laila Musleh<\/li><li>Taylor Morales\u00a0<\/li><li>Yuka Masamura<\/li><li>Lydia Evans<\/li><li>Lynn Asare-Bediako<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3>Jerome A. Nachman Writing Award <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Jerome A. Nachman Writing Award, presented for the quality of their writing as COM journalism students by the College of Communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each award comes with a $5000 prize to help recipients \u201cfollow their passion and strive to become better writers,\u201d as described at its founding in 2005. It was named in honor of Jerome Nachman, a former editor in chief of the&nbsp;<em>New York Post<\/em>&nbsp;and recipient of the George Foster Peabody and Edward R. Murrow awards.
