{"id":3397,"date":"2011-10-20T13:38:58","date_gmt":"2011-10-20T17:38:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/?p=3397"},"modified":"2020-01-09T17:59:21","modified_gmt":"2020-01-09T22:59:21","slug":"stephen-quigley-named-outstanding-educator-2","status":"publish","type":"bu-article","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/articles\/stephen-quigley-named-outstanding-educator-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Stephen Quigley named Outstanding Educator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/about-com\/faculty-directory\/stephen-quigley\/\">Professor Stephen Quigley<\/a>, APR, was awarded the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) 2011 Outstanding Educator of the Year Award during the PRSA 2011 International Conference. This award honors a PRSA member who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of public relations education through college or university teaching. Quigley is the third COM professor to win the award, joining Donald Wright (1993) and Otto Lerbinger (1974).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m honored every day by the privilege of teaching,\u201d said Quigley. \u201cThis award is unimagined and deeply appreciated frosting on the cake. I am beyond proud to follow the footsteps of my Boston University colleagues and previous Outstanding Educator Award recipients, Otto Lerbinger and Don Wright.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Quigley has been a member of the Boston University public relations faculty for 12 years, and served as coordinator of the program for four years. Prior to accepting a teaching position with Boston University, he was a partner in the public relations firm Schneider &amp; Associates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPRSA is proud to recognize Quigley\u2019s contributions to education by honoring him with the 2011 Outstanding Educator of the Year Award,\u201d said Rosanna M. Fiske, APR, PRSA chair and CEO. \u201cThe considerable impact Quigley has had on the next generation of public relations professionals has helped advance the profession in profound ways. This honor highlights his achievements and dedication to helping to prepare the future leaders of our profession.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Quigley is co-director of Boston University\u2019s Master of Science Health Communication program, and serves on the editorial board of the <em>Journal of Communication in Healthcare<\/em>. He is co-authoring \u201cManaging Corporate Communication: A Cross-Cultural Approach,\u201d scheduled to be published in January. The text includes contributions from scholars and professionals from Europe and the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPRSA is proud to recognize Quigley\u2019s contributions to higher education,\u201d said James J. Roop, APR, Fellow PRSA, chair of the PRSA Awards &amp; Honors Committee and president of Roop &amp; Co. \u201cHis diverse academic and professional background make him an asset to the public relations field. This award speaks volumes about his achievements and dedication to the Society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Publicity Club of New England awarded Quigley the John J. Malloy Crystal Bell Award for lifetime achievement and contribution to the field of public relations in 2006. In 2010, he was awarded the Diane Davis Beacon Award for lifetime achievement by PRSA Boston. Quigley is also the recipient of the Boston University Lyndon Baines Johnson Student Advisor of the Year Award, the Boston University College of Communication Advisor of the Year Award and the Boston University Student Activities Advisor of the Year Award.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABOUT THE PUBLIC RELATIONS SOCIETY OF AMERICA (PRSA)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>PRSA is the largest professional organization serving the US public relations community.
