{"id":24396,"date":"2020-04-29T18:10:51","date_gmt":"2020-04-29T22:10:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/?p=24396"},"modified":"2020-05-05T17:45:25","modified_gmt":"2020-05-05T21:45:25","slug":"com-student-photographers-dominate-boston-awards-2","status":"publish","type":"bu-article","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/articles\/com-student-photographers-dominate-boston-awards-2\/","title":{"rendered":"COM Student Photographers Dominate Boston Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sophie Park, a Pardee senior and COM photography student, won <a href=\"http:\/\/bppa.net\/boston-press-photographers-association-annual-contests\/2019-college-contest\/best-in-show\/\">Best of Show<\/a> and first place for <a href=\"http:\/\/bppa.net\/boston-press-photographers-association-annual-contests\/2019-college-contest\/05-photo-story\/\">Photo Story<\/a> in the annual Boston Press Photographers Association College Contest for her series chronicling illness and uncertainty during the current pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSophie is a talented and incisive visual person,\u201d said Greg Marinovich, her COM photography professor. \u201cShe showed courage and optimism while going through a difficult COVID-19 experience by documenting both her illness and the sudden narrowing of her life under quarantine.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>COM student photographers took home first place in two other categories: Paola Poventud Escoriaza for <a href=\"http:\/\/bppa.net\/boston-press-photographers-association-annual-contests\/2019-college-contest\/04-portrait\/\">Portrait<\/a> and Lauryn Allen for <a href=\"http:\/\/bppa.net\/boston-press-photographers-association-annual-contests\/2019-college-contest\/01-news\/\">News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLauryn is a dedicated photographer, always looking for adventure. She enjoys meeting people and documenting their lives,\u201d said Stephen Haines, who taught Lauryn and Paola at COM. \u201cPaola takes a measured and artistic approach to photography which can result in some beautiful work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bppa.net\/\">BPPA<\/a> is the oldest press and television press association in the country.
