{"id":21894,"date":"2019-10-30T10:07:42","date_gmt":"2019-10-30T14:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/?p=21894"},"modified":"2021-11-10T14:06:28","modified_gmt":"2021-11-10T19:06:28","slug":"hatchawards","status":"publish","type":"bu-article","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/articles\/hatchawards\/","title":{"rendered":"COM Dominates the Student Category at the 59th Annual Hatch Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COM students took home 19 of the 26 student awards given out at the 59th Annual Hatch Awards for Creative Excellence last night at the House of Blues.<\/p>\n<p>COM students snagged one gold, six silver, five bronze and seven merits awards. Thirty different students, both graduate and undergraduate, from portfolio classes taught by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/profile\/edward-boches\/\">Edward Boches<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/profile\/doug-gould\/\">Doug Gould<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/profile\/pegeen-ryan\/\">Pegeen Ryan<\/a>, were among the winners.<\/p>\n<p>Winning work included campaigns, short films, videos, experiential, social media, transit and posters. All 19 winners are featured in the Ad Club\u2019s 2019 Hatch Book and on its <a href=\"https:\/\/theadclub.org\/hatch59\/\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17645\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17645\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/com\/files\/2019\/10\/Hatch-Awards_2019_Winners_2-of-3-resize.jpg\" alt=\"Nihal Atawane ('19)\" class=\"center\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17645\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nihal Atawane (&#8217;19)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis was an especially rewarding night,\u201d said Gould, a professor of advertising who joined four faculty and more than 30 students and alumnae who attended the celebration. \u201cThe entire New England creative community witnessed on the big screen what our students are capable of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI expect there will be no shortage of calls from local agencies looking to hire interns and entry- level talent after what they saw tonight,\u201d added Ryan.<\/p>\n<p>The winning work was for brands that included The New York Times, Amtrak, Liberty Mutual, Nintendo and other large and small companies. \u201cThe students are working on challenging briefs that call for that elusive blend of intelligence and cleverness and they delivered,\u201d said Boches.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17645\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17645\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/com\/files\/2019\/10\/Hatch-Awards_2019_Winners_-3-of-3-resize.jpg\" alt=\"Catarina Moreira-Rato ('19)\" class=\"center\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17645\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Catarina Moreira-Rato (&#8217;19)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In addition to BU COM student winners, BU COM alumnae garnered gold, silver and bronze awards for work they created at agencies including Hill, Holiday, MullenLowe, Arnold, Allen &amp; Gerritsen, MMB, Digitas LLB, and Connelly and Partners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat, too, was a joy to witness,\u201d said Gould. \u201cAt events like this we can really see COM\u2019s impact on the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Hatch Awards is one of the country\u2019s premiere regional creative award shows, regularly featuring winning work that goes on to prevail at national and international shows including One Show and Cannes.
