The journalist said his ideal is achieving \u201cecstatic insight\u201d during his live two-hour radio program, distributed by NPR and airing in Boston from 10 a.m. &#8211; noon weekdays and repeated 7-9 weeknights.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 20, more than 60 students and faculty members heard how live radio interviewing is like dancing with a guest, when \u201cyour lead is pretty strong\u201d, but you need to pay attention to your partner and be careful to listen and not run anyone over. Ashbrook&#8217;s visit was coordinated by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/about-com\/faculty-directory\/susan-walker\/\">Prof. Susan Walker<\/a><\/strong> as part of journalist <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/2013\/02\/06\/emmy-winning-reporter-andrea-kremer-teaches-new-course\/\">Andrea Kremer<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s class \u201cThe Art of Interviewing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <em>On Point<\/em> radio program is put together with none of the questions written in advance, but admittedly a lot of preparation and research, demonstrated by piles of papers on Ashbrook&#8217;s studio desk. The program was born out of the 9\/11 attacks but now covers two topics daily- anything from asteroids to adoptions, whiskey to heat, provoking what Ashbrook hopes will be a national conversation.<\/p>\n<p>His advice, \u201ctreat all with respect\u201d, \u201cchannel the audience by asking questions they would want to know\u201d, \u201cpush forward\u201d, \u201cmaintain a command presence\u201d \u201cengage your head and your heart\u201d and, during this multi-tasking, complex, two-hour live juggler job,  \u201clive in the moment, being mindful\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Ashbrook is also an author, a former editor with <em>The Boston Globe<\/em>, and spent 10 years reporting from abroad, mostly in Asia.
