{"id":12397,"date":"2017-11-03T15:47:57","date_gmt":"2017-11-03T19:47:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/?p=12397"},"modified":"2019-10-31T14:25:35","modified_gmt":"2019-10-31T18:25:35","slug":"students-dominate-hatch-awards","status":"publish","type":"bu-article","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/articles\/students-dominate-hatch-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Students Dominate Hatch Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Seven undergraduate alums and seven currently enrolled graduate students\u00a0<span>swept the annual Hatch Awards, New England\u2019s equivalent of the \u201cAcademy Awards of Advertising.\u201d Together they<\/span>\u00a0won two silver, five bronze and four merit awards at the nation\u2019s oldest and most prestigious regional award show.<\/p>\n<p>The first silver bowls went to <strong>Isabella Bolivar\u00a0(&#8217;17)<\/strong> and <strong>Michael Philbin (&#8217;17)<\/strong>, for their Bose <em>Hear it All<\/em> campaign, a clever series of posters that depicts famous album covers with something visibly missing. &#8220;We knew we&#8217;d gotten to something when Michael asked, &#8216;What is this thing about art, that it&#8217;s not the same to see it in a museum as it is to see it on your phone?&#8217; We had talked about seeing Monet&#8217;s Water Lilies at the MoMa and seeing it on Instagram. That was the truth we needed to get through in our campaign&#8221; said Bolivar. &#8220;We started coming up with examples and asking, what would Kiss be without their makeup? You can let your head explode with ideas, but you need to ground them in strategy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Isabella is now an art director at <span>Henri Bendel in NYC<\/span>, and Michael is a copywriter at MMB in Boston.<\/p>\n<p>A second silver was awarded to graduate students <strong>Sarah Pierz (&#8217;18)<\/strong> and <strong>Huang Huang (&#8217;18)<\/strong> for an idea titled <em>115th Congress, Twice Removed<\/em>, that showcases how Congress might get along better if members realized they actually had a shared family history.<\/p>\n<h3>Bronze winners included:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>TV Campaign for Spotify: <strong>Eduardo Zigelboim (&#8217;17)<\/strong> and <strong>Crystal Phyu (&#8217;17)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>TV Single for Spotify: <strong>Eduardo Zigelboim <\/strong>and <strong>Crystal Phyu\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Single Entry for Partners Global: graduate students <strong>Handon Luo (&#8217;18)<\/strong> and <strong>Rosa Hargrove (&#8217;18)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Single Entry for Partners Global: graduate students <strong>Jiani Wu (&#8217;18)<\/strong> and <strong>Taanya Malhotra (&#8217;18)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Single Entry for Partners Global: <strong>Sarah Pierz<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Huang Huang<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Among the merit winners were <strong>Jess Gelbwaks (&#8217;17)<\/strong> and <strong>Laura Bailey (&#8217;17)<\/strong> for Maxwell House;\u00a0<strong>Michael Philbin<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Elisabeth\u00a0Bowerman (&#8217;17)<\/strong> for Fidelity Investments;
