About Maureen McCarthy

Maureen leads the communications and content strategy for Boston University’s Office of Digital Learning & Innovation (DL&I). As a higher education and information technology communications professional and member of the DL&I leadership team, she oversees and manages DL&I’s website, editorial/content strategy, social media and email campaigns, conference planning, and media relations. Serving as a web project manager and multimedia producer, she partnered with BU Marketing & Communications to develop DL&I’s custom-built, 400-page website.

Prior to joining Boston University, Maureen was an editorial director for four wellness magazines and several award-winning companion websites — Gluten-Free Living, Pain-Free Living, Practical Diabetology — including serving as editor-in-chief of Diabetes Self-Management.

Maureen’s communications experience also includes celebrating Boston Children’s Hospital’s mission through research and patient storytelling as a digital editor and senior writer. As editor, she covered pediatric medical and research news and co-developed the hospital’s Gender Identity & Pronoun Use—A Guide for Pediatric Healthcare Professionals.

As a nationally published journalist, Maureen covered the Massachusetts high-tech industry as a business correspondent for the Boston Business Journal. And for more than a decade, she was a real estate columnist, business, and features correspondent for the Patriot Ledger and Enterprise, with published work in dozens of local, regional, and national GateHouse Media publications.

Here at Boston University, Maureen is communications co-chair of the BU Women’s Guild; a member of BU’s Allies & Advocates for Faculty & Staff, is a Tri-Alpha National Honor Society inductee; and received Newbury Center Terrier FIRST training. She also blends her deep appreciation for Boston Children’s Hospital and passion for cooking with families at Boston Children’s Yawkey Family Inn, the hospital’s patient-family housing program.
