These fellowships are for full-time faculty members interested in developing their careers as health services researchers. Trainees will be provided with mentorship, travel support, and information resources.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Faculty fellows will retain their faculty appointments at their home institutions, while utilizing CoHSTAR support to maximize their protected time for research activities.\u00a0Matching the fellow with a CoHSTAR mentor is a crucial element of a successful application (see the section on Preparing an Application).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The stipend amount for faculty fellows in 2023 is $60,000\/per fellow per year. The faculty fellowship terms may begin as early as June 1, 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>About CoHSTAR<\/b><b>:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CoHSTAR<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> builds upon the well-established and nationally renowned health services research and training infrastructure available at its trio of collaborating institutions: Brown University, Boston University and University of Pittsburgh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b><strong>The specific goals of CoHSTAR are to:<\/strong><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1) Build health services research infrastructure to facilitate interdisciplinary health services\/health policy research by physical therapist scientists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2) Expand the number of physical therapist health services\/health policy researchers by training highly skilled, physical therapist health services\/health policy researchers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3) Increase the quantity and quality of physical therapy health services\/health policy research by supporting <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">high quality pilot and small<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> studies that lead to external funding and scholarship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4) Build upon active and growing research programs at collaborating institutions to build a sustainable, long-term capacity for PT health services and health policy research training.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Eligibility Criteria<\/b><b>:\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Full-time faculty member and physical therapist<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD) or research experience equivalent<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strong record of scholarly productivity as evidenced by peer reviewed publications, grants and other activities (not necessarily in the area of health services research)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In keeping with Foundation requirements, viable candidates must be citizens, or noncitizen nationals, of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of appointment<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Preparing an Application<\/b><b>:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Matching fellows to mentors is crucial for a successful training experience. The successful faculty fellowship candidate will have a focused research interest that aligns well with the research interests of his or her proposed potential CoHSTAR mentor.\u00a0 Persons interested in applying for a faculty fellowship should engage in preliminary discussions with CoHSTAR faculty members early in the application process to develop a successful research and training plan.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Application Process<\/b><b>:<\/b><b>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Initial applications will be screened and the most promising candidates will be selected for interviews.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the interview candidates will meet with CoHSTAR faculty and pertinent potential mentors and will present their research.\u00a0 Following candidates\u2019 interviews, CoHSTAR faculty will make recommendations to the Executive Committee as to whether to offer the candidate a position.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Screening for open positions will continue until all successful candidates have been identified or the search is closed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CoHSTAR is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic global community and considers applicants without regard to, and does not discriminate on the basis of, gender, race, protected veteran status, disability, or any other legally protected status. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applicants from diverse backgrounds or interested in health disparities are particularly encouraged to apply: we encourage candidates to avoid self-selecting out of the pool and welcome applicants from any academic location or setting.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h2>\n<h3><b>CoHSTAR Faculty Fellowship Application Instructions<\/b><b>:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applicants should submit the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A short essay (1000 to 2000 words) describing their career trajectory to date, their experience in health services research and their career goals.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A proposed plan of activities for the faculty fellowship experience (2 pages maximum)\u00a0<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Objectives\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plan of activities with timeline<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proposed deliverables\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brief statement explaining the significance and impact of their fellowship activities<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proposed potential primary mentor and mentoring site<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A mentoring plan describing how the applicant would engage with the faculty mentor<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Budget and detailed budget justification\n<ol>\n<li>A proposed budget of up to $60,000 per year <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(this may include salary and research expenses). CoHSTAR will enter into a memorandum of agreement with the applicants university to cover these costs.<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No indirect costs allowed<\/span><\/li>\n<li>A separate budget of up to $7,500 per year for travel and training related expenses. These funds would be reimbursed directly to the fellow as expenses are incurred.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A curriculum vitae.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two current letters of reference<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A letter of support from the applicant\u2019s departmental chairperson stating that the faculty\u2019s time will be protected for research during the fellowship period.
