Get a taste of Greece! <\/strong><\/h2>\n

In Spring 2021, Classical Studies will be running a new course, CG 101 <\/strong>(Modern Greek Language, Culture, and Literature), which immerses students in a vibrant and exciting world culture. If you have ever been curious about Greece, or you have taken a course like \u2018World of Greece\u2019 or \u2018World of Rome\u2019 and want to explore the transformation from the ancient to the modern world, CG 101<\/strong> is a perfect course for you. The course fulfills Hub units for Critical Thinking<\/em> and Global Citizenship and Intercultural Literacy<\/em><\/span>. There are no prerequisites, and no prior knowledge of Greece is necessary!<\/p>\n

Professor Kelly Polychroniou, an award-winning teacher and scholar, will be teaching this course in the Spring. We asked Prof. Polychroniou some questions about CG 101. <\/strong><\/p>\n

What kind of things will students learn in CG 101?
\n<\/strong><\/em>Students will receive a taste of the rich Greek language, explore the beautiful Greek culture, and discover amazing Greek literature and films. They will also enjoy lectures by acclaimed professors and prominent figures from the Greek world. All books and materials are free!<\/p>\n

What inspires your passion for Greece?
\n<\/strong><\/em>Greece has a very rich culture, with an incredible language, history, music, and food. It is a beautiful country to explore.<\/p>\n

What opportunities are there for students to learn about Modern Greece at BU?
\n<\/strong><\/em>Students can learn about Greece inside and outside the classroom. They can visit Greek places in Boston like the Greek Consulate, Greek restaurants, the Museum of Fine Arts, and attend events about music, film, dancing, and drama. Through events at BU, they can also meet prominent people from the Greek community.<\/p>\n

We also have a program in Greece during the summer, with scholarships available (https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/classics\/get-involved\/buph\/<\/a>). Students can also experience internships at the Greek Consulate and at the famous Ilias Lalaounis jewelry museum in Greece.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
