Our students have a track record of successful application to competitive internships in classics and related disciplines, and often pursue research through the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) at Boston University.\u00a0<\/span><span>The Department of Classical Studies and the Program in Modern Greek offer students opportunities for internships in and outside the Boston area.\u00a0 Examples include internships at the Museum of Fine Arts and at the Greek Consulate in Boston, as well as the Lalaounis Jewelry Museum in Athens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Semester Programs<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thecentrorome.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies (ICCS), Rome<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nBoston University is proud to be a member institution of the prestigious Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies (ICCS) in Rome, Italy.<\/p>\n<p>The Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome is located on the Gianicolo Hill in Rome where students spend an academic semester studying the history, archaeology, topography, art, and culture of ancient Italy and Rome, while continuing study of at least one ancient language. The program includes frequent field trips within Rome, day trips to surrounding areas, and to the ancient sites of Sicily. BU financial aid transfers to this program and students receive BU credits for courses taken in Rome.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Summer Programs<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/classics\/study-abroad\/summer-travel-fellowship\/\"><strong>Material Culture Summer Travel Fellowship<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<span>The Department of Classical Studies offers\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"highlight\" id=\"0.34979900616031245\" name=\"searchHitInReadingPane\">summer<\/span><span> fellowships to study material culture and archaeological sites of the ancient Mediterranean. Fellowships are open to advanced undergraduates with a strong interest in classical archaeology and\/or intentions to attend graduate school in Classics and to all graduate students in Classical Studies, Archaeology, Religion, and the History of Art and Architecture who are pursuing graduate work in ancient Mediterranean studies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/chs.harvard.edu\/programs\/student-programs\/digital-humanities-internship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The Center for Hellenic Studies (CHS) Summer Internship in Digital Humanities<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Applications Currently Closed. Redesigning 2023 Program.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Annually, the CHS seeks interns to work at the CHS in Washington, DC on the Free First Thousand Years of Greek, a self-standing subset of the Open Greek and Latin Project. The work involves a range of activities, including scanning texts, verifying and correcting texts, and uploading corrected texts to a GitHub repository. All instruction is provided on site.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dh.uni-leipzig.de\/wo\/projects\/open-greek-and-latin-project\">Free First Thousand Years of Greek project<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>is to make freely available the corpus of the first thousand years of Ancient Greek as attested in manuscripts. The project aims to incorporate a modern search engine, the ability to download works, the capacity for including textual variants, and numerous other features.<\/p>\n<p>Please visit<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/chs.harvard.edu\/programs\/student-programs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CHS online<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>for the most current information. Internships at the ILJM are a unique opportunity to learn about the operation of a small but dynamic museum. Our program fulfills a dual purpose: students are immersed into contemporary Greek life while they simultaneously volunteer their time for important humanitarian causes and make a lasting impact. The inaugural program took place during the summer of 2017 in Athens, Greece.<\/span><span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Thanks to a partnership with the Hellenic American University, the Greek America Foundation is able to grant\u00a0<em>3 college credits<\/em>\u00a0for participation in our service learning program for an extra fee of $360 total. Hellenic American University is accredited through the New England Commission on Higher Education and these credits are recognized by U.S. institutions of higher learning. Students are responsible for checking with their home institutions about transfer of credits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Scholarships covering all program fees will be offered to approximately 16 students.
