{"id":7564,"date":"2020-09-28T15:41:15","date_gmt":"2020-09-28T19:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/classics\/?page_id=7564"},"modified":"2026-04-17T14:18:45","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T18:18:45","slug":"classical-civilization-minor","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/classics\/academics\/undergraduate-programs\/minors\/classical-civilization-minor\/","title":{"rendered":"Classical Civilization Minor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A minor in Classical Civilization requires a minimum of six courses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The requirements are as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>One course in Greek History\/Civilization or Roman History\/Civilization\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>CL101 World of Greece<\/li>\n<li>CL102 World of Rome<\/li>\n<li>CL321 Greek History<\/li>\n<li>CL322 Roman History<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Four classical civilization and\/or classical language courses (including CAS CG courses)\n<ul>\n<li>View Civilization and\/or Classical Languages Courses courses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/classics\/academics\/undergraduate-programs\/majors\/course-classifications\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>One course focusing on classical literature\n<ul>\n<li>View Classical Literature courses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/classics\/academics\/undergraduate-programs\/majors\/course-classifications\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span>* If CL111, CL112, CL161, CL162, CG111, CG112 are used toward the language requirement they cannot be used toward minor requirements<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">**<span>CL 101 and CL 102 may be counted towards this requirement as well, unless these courses are used to satisfy the first requirement listed above<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>This minor will be receiving new requirements which are in the final approval stage. We anticipate that final confirmation for these changes will come before the next academic year (2026-2027). The following are the proposed changes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><em><strong>Minor in Classical Studies: 6 courses<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>CAS CL101, CL102, CL321 or CG101<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Five additional CAS CL or CG courses<\/strong><\/em>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>One of which must be 300-level or above<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>With permission of DUS, one related course from other departments may be counted toward this minor.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A minor in Classical Civilization requires a minimum of six courses.
